Issue launching java applications - Trying to avoid re-install of Win 7

Its really been bothering me lately that I have this problem.

Whenever I try to launch a jar file with javaw.exe(Minecraft etc) My computer bogs down to incredibly slow, even my mouse is lagged and skips across the screen.

I've tried re-install Java and clearing out all temp files I can think of, but nothing seems to help.

I can run these applications in a Win7 virtual machine without any issues, but I need to be able to run it on my main Win7 install.

This one so far has really had me stumped.

What's your setup?

i7 920 @ 4ghz
6gb ram
gtx 460x2

All of these things worked fine until.... maybe 6 months ago? I was just avoiding trying to get it working until recently. Netflix also refuses to work, I actually watch movies in my VM to get it working.

Have you tried reinstalling Java? Or cleaning your registry perhaps? Doesn't sound like a hardware issue.

Yeah, I've re-installed Java. Oddly it even happens with one application that has its own java executable that it runs.

I have not tried cleaning my registry though. I'll give it a shot though, prob won't hurt.

Yeah... Registry cleaning didn't appear to help :\

Oh also, make sure you do not have tons of fonts installed (200 is "standard"). it located in c:\windows\fonts

You are my hero 🙂

It was my fonts.

At some point I had found some giant font pack from a few years ago and installed all of them(thousands of them).

I had never heard of issues with having too many fonts. I am so glad I do not have to re-install now.

Yeah, I am not sure why either, but it does happen. MAC users too, despite what they claim. I see it more with them, since Java and the MAC OS are closer tied than Windows, and since most MAC people fancy themselves as artists, they want as many fonts as possible.

Glad I could help!
