Issue installing new catalyst software suite on Windows 7 64 bit

Hello everyone,
This morning my computer prompted me that the new 12.2 catalyst software suite was available for download from AMD/ATI. I am currently using 12.1. I chose to download and install the new version, but the installation failed to install the new display driver (8.95). My current driver is version 8.93. After the failed install, I attempted to reinstall my 8.93 driver, since the catalyst control center gave a message that the driver contained an error or was not installed. This install failed as well.

I tried:
Uninstalling everything (the whole suite)
Reinstalling the package by directly launching as an administrator
Uninstalling the video device through device manager, then attempting a reinstall
Redownloading both suites (old and new) and doing everything again

After all of this, it remained impossible to install any display driver. Windows device manager even reported an error in driver installation.

I was forced to restore my system to an earlier date to once again have a proper display driver.

My system is:
AMD Phenom II x4 955 3.2Ghz
DIAMOND A4890PE51G Radeon HD 4890 1GB 256-bit GDDR5
4 GB Patriot RAM 1333Mhz
ECS A790GXM-AD3 motherboard
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit 6.1.7601 service pack 1 build 7601

More information:
I recently upgraded my main hard disk to a 1TB Hatachi 0F13180 IM from a 320GB drive from a system image and extended the main partition.

My system is configured for auto login, this may yield issues for administrative privileges despite my account being the administrator?

Please request more information if needed.

Thank you in advance for your time and effort.

You do NOT need to update drivers that often for a 4890, unless there's something new related to a game you're playing.

Maybe there is something in the temp folder that is causing issues.

Uninstall drivers
Empty temp folder (C: \Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp or C: \Windows\Temp)
Download fresh (older?) drivers from website directly
Install new drivers

If that doesn't work, try one of the driver sweeper/cleaner utilities. I only recommend these when something goes wrong, like your case.

Sorry, I should have made myself more clear. I'm not concerned too much with the newest driver not working. I'm more concerned that the previous one would not reinstall. I don't want something to happen to my system, then not be able to install any drivers at all for my video card.
That being said, I will attempt to install after cleaning the temp folder.
I'll post back with the results.

I'd also like to say, that although it may be unnecessary to install a newer driver, I've always been one who likes to figure out why something doesn't work when it should. So any help on the issue would be appreciated, the system in question isn't mission critical to me, so just cause it's stable, doesn't mean I want to keep it that way. :)

Thanks again.

Try Driver Sweeper. I don't generally use something like this unless you already have a problem. The normal add/remove drivers usually works fine. When it doesn't, you can try the sweeper.

I used the program suggested and had no luck. Everything was the same. I even attempted simply to uninstall the current driver and reinstall it, which also failed. I also remembered that I had recently flashed a new BIOS. I rolled the BIOS back, still to encounter the same problem.

As an experiment, I used another PC running the same windows 7 64 bit setup, but using a PCIe Nvidia 8800gts card. I attempted to install a new display driver for this machine, only to have the driver installation fail.

Is it possible that an update to the .net framework is causing this issue? Or am I just really unlucky to have two different display driver installations fail on the same operating system configuration?

AMD and Nvidia both failed on two PCs? You have other issues to sort out. What is common between the two systems?

Same OS, Windows 7 64-bit with the same updates installed. That's really the only common factor. One's a dell xps with a pentium D and the other is based on an ECS motherboard with an AMD Phenom II x4 955.

This problem is boggling my mind...

Just got a third PC running Windows 7 64 bit to fail a display driver install. This one was an Nvidia 9800 GTX+.

Corrupted downloads? Bad router?

I've never had any issue with other files downloaded on my network. For instance, yesterday I downloaded an iso for ubuntu 11.10 and used it for installation on my laptop with no issue. I also frequently download games from steam with a steady speed, which doesn't lead me to suspect any packets are being resent or dropped due to errors.
