That's a pretty stupid statement, since most economists will tell you we've benefited more from trade with healthy economies than we ever have from prolonged wars. See our trade with Lauos/Hanoi.

Come on now, you can do better than that garbage.

Does anyone think a peace treaty with a tyrant who overthrew a legitimately elected governmnet will change anything?

Israel already fatally screwed up the Condi Rice summit by refusing to agree to an agenda. Now its just going to be a charade. Abbas can no longer speak for at least half of the Palestinian people, if Abbas plays Israeli poodle, he may well lose the other half.

But think of all the free meals and all the photo ops. And Washington has such pleasant weather in November. But never say never, Syria and other Arab States might just show up later if they think there is some progress being made and Israel is willing to agree to an agenda.

Don't be too sure about that.

As for the ongoing conflicts, nobody gains. Wars of attrition aren't as profitable as big opportunities like Iraq, especially since we subsidize Israel.

You're obviously not thinking. When the wars are manageable, not existential, then there is quite a lot of money to be made. Fighting Russia would be dangerous. But fighting a bunch of "terrorists" is certainly not existential, but equally profitable. Look at how much our defense budget has blossomed over the past couple of years. Do you really think bin Laden wants to take over America?

For the terrorists, aka Palestinians, the war is quite existential.

Well, look at Israel that has a antagonize their neighbors policy by being arrogant. Do any of you think Israel could afford such a policy or the military they have if Uncle Sammy was not
bankrolling them to the hilt?

There will be no lasting peace deal in the mid-east until Uncle Sammy quits backing Israel to the hilt. Next year will mark year 60, well past a golden anniversary.

Is it also possible that Israel has shown restraint at the request of Uncle.

When you back them up against a wall with nothing to lose, they could easily retaliate against those the prod them with greater intensity and less restraint.

Sadly we saw Israel do just that during the summer of 06 against Lebanon. It backed fired on Israel as hezbollah support went up and the Israeli PR machine received a huge black eye world wide.

And now Israel is busily pretending the gaza strip no longer exists and 1.5 million Palestinians grew gills and swam away.

I think he's referring to government spending, and their access to corrupt ties (like Cheney and Haliburton).

When Israel no longer is worried about PR, then the Gaza problem will go away involuntarily
