The list of petitioners includes a brigadier general, two lieutenant colonels and nine colonels. Nine are active-duty; the rest are reservists.

In their petition, the pilots, who fly F-15 jet fighters and Apache, Cobra and Black Hawk helicopters, said they would refuse to "continue to harm innocent civilians" through so-called "targeted killings" of terrorists and their political leaders, and would no longer conduct other "immoral and illegal" operations that are "part of the occupation."

My heart goes out to these brave, honorable soldiers. They are moral heroes.

This is the difference between soldiers and butchers in uniform. Israel should be proud they have these men in their military.

Absolutely. They are proof to the world that not all Israelis are heartless thugs and an example for people like The Presence who beleive that the Israeli army is above doing anything barbaric.

If that were the case, then our whole military should go on strike.

Seems like they are too busy counting their medals. ;)

So 27 people speak out against something out of how many 10's of thousands (hundreds of thousands?) of soldiers in the Israeli Army and they are heros? What if the rest of the Army says what they do is justified and moral?

What if. Mecenaries are nothing new, in fact the whole reason we have a "coalition" of pols and other eastren blockers in Iraq is we are paying them $60 a day for being in theater plus a bunch of goodies or thier elite. 10X what they make normally.

Hey Jessica Lynch was one in "10's of thousands (hundreds of thousands?)" and she was a hero in the eyes of the US. So it does not matter if it is a single person or even thousands, it's what their actions are, that they represent that counts.

Uhhh yeah, exactly. It takes alot of guts to go against the grain, so to speak. Especially when you consider they are not just 'sodliers', they are ranked officers with a dignified position. It wouldn't be very spectacular if these were 27 privates, now would it? Not only that, they are pilots: Israel's most proud and elite military division.

So again, I praise the actions of these officers, and I pray for their safety

It definately takes guts to do what they did. To bring down the scorn of your entire nation on you to bring an issue to light and take a moral stand. The "I was Just Following Orders" defense shouldn't work anymore.
