Not too shocking considering all the scandals and corruption in Israel recently. The country is decaying from within.
former justice minister Haim Ramon has been found guilty of sexual harrassment;
President Katsav has been indicted for rape;
Tourism Ministerial candidate Tartman lied about going to school;
former head of the Army Halutz was worried more about his personal finances hours into a hot war;
Police officers caught taking bribes;
Prime Minister Olmert is under investigation for breach of trust.

Israel recalls 'naked ambassador'

Israel has recalled its ambassador to El Salvador after he was found drunk and naked apart from bondage gear.

Reports say he was able to identify himself to police only after a rubber ball had been removed from his mouth.

A foreign ministry official described Ambassador Tzuriel Refael's behaviour as an unprecedented embarrassment.

The incident, which happened two weeks ago, has renewed calls for a radical overhaul of the way Israel appoints and promotes its diplomats.

San Salvador was Mr Refael's first post as ambassador. He was promoted in 2006 from a technical position in the ministry which had involved several foreign postings.

He was being recalled, although he had not broken any laws, foreign ministry spokeswoman Zehavit Ben-Hillel told reporters.

She confirmed that lurid reports of the incident in the Israeli press were accurate.

"We're talking about behaviour that is unbecoming of a diplomat," she said.

Israel has been rocked by a recent series of misconduct and corruption scandals, shaking public confidence in the political leadership.

Haaretz website reports that police found Mr Refael in the Israeli embassy compound where he had been found bound, gagged and naked apart from sado-masochistic sex accessories.

In 2006, Israel's diplomatic service was criticised by the public watchdog for its appointments system.

The state comptroller's report singled out the foreign ministry appointments committee for its inadequate examination of candidates and lack of transparency.

The product of a corrupt and decadent society and going to a 3rd world country where he could probably abuse teens or worse without worrying about the law

Perhaps, but that wasn't reported so I wouldn't know, unless you know something we all don't.

Sad that he couldn't keep his private life away from the political limelight. Hopefully he is put somewhere where he can't embarrass the country again.

On another note, the OP coming from the country with the highest incarceration rate in the world and the world leader of child pornography ect, I would really reconsider accusing another country of "decaying" from within. All countries have problems with certain elected officials doing sexually embarrassing situations (Mark Folley, Bill Clinton, This new high prices hooker who supposedly can drop names"). Just as it would be reaching and ignorant to say that Mark Folley's behavior is representative of a decaying country it is just as ignorant to say that of Israel. You should read about other countries besides just gunning for one and notice that sexual deviance and embarrassing behavior is prevalent among people whos private lives are under continuous scrutiny.

This was the point I was trying to make, trying to link this with the decay of Israeli society is dishonest to say the least.

But what a skewed observation such as the OP's does accomplish is to glaringly show his agenda to all who wish to see.

Ahhh, fools really do rush in. First, I have an agenda. Then other countries do it as well. Finally, the BBC is bias so we should disregard the story. While I'm sure it would take a simple link to an Israeli website, I'm enjoying the sound of the drones at the moment.

What's lost in all of this is that Israel has exported the freakshow of the Middle East to a conservative Catholic country. This is the ambassador of Israel here, not some low-level salary man. For such a small country to have so many scandals withing the past 6-8 months IS indicative of the decadence occuring within.

But keep it coming, I enjoy listening to your excuses because it's telling of the level of denial that keeps up the decadence.

Yeaah they did a good thing to recall that "ambassador" ;) I don't see how this is indicative of everyone there though~ there are always "whackos" in every society whether they be an terrorists or..ummm...absolute blumbering idiots
I mean look at what we elected president :p Atleast this was just an ambassador. Doesn't mean the USA is a decadent society ;)

BBC has public admitted it is bias, so yes, it is. I am still waiting for you actually say something you havn't already. It doesn't take much intelligence to sit there and go "keep it coming" instead of actually debating your points. Again, all countries have people in positions of power who embarrass them from time to time with sexual deviancies.

If you want what this proves about Israel, it proves they are a true free society, one does not pry into the bedrooms of its people and allows them freedom. A society where you do not have to fear that your private life is under continuous scrutiny from the government and one where you can go on about your daily life keeping your own pleasures to yourself. It doesn't show a decay of Israel, it shows the strengthening of Israel that even though people such as this ambassador, who should have known to keep private and public life separate, that he can go on about his private life without the government finding out. He can do this because the government doesn't pry into your bedroom, and does not care. Try to say that about the Arab nations that hang homosexuals, or American where people can still be charged for sodomy. Yes, this proves something about Israel, it proves that it is a forward thinking country that these people can exist in. It is tragic that he let this bleed over in public view, but that shows nothing on Israel and only on this persons character.

He is not Jew bashing. He is Israeli bashing.

All the Jews and Israelis on this forum who are posting in this thread trying to attack the OP are showing that Israel is weak.
If you want Israel to stand high with the rest of the high nations then take the attacks and laugh about them. Stop defending Israel at every turn because people will just view that as a sign that Israel is weak and must always be defended.

So let him put down the Israel ambassador who was found drunk. Who cares?

Aimster, don't you want to tell us again that the majority of Israelis are Arabs?

I guess the OP is bashing Arabs then.

I see that you twist this around and are calling him a hero, representative of all that is Israel. lol:). Well, let them all come out of the closet then, with their deviant ways. Let's celebrate their freedom with one wild orgy at the Israeli embassy, shall we. OTOH, I think the ambassador already thought of that and ran with it, naked.

Seriously, working for the government means representing the people. If this guy is representative of the Israeli people, then, relatively speaking, I stand corrected. Most of the world would find this disgusting and evident of a moral decay, a government not unlike Caligula or Nero at their lowest points. We've seen this with the occupation of another people (the apartheid in Palestine), now we're seeing it in the very individuals that would produce such dark policies and call it security.

One second.

*checking freezer*

Damn! I thought that if Jefferson had cash in the freezer, then so would I.

*looks around*

Guess I'm not living in a boat either; so whom does Cunningham represent?

Conclusion: yet another leap of logic by Narmer.

So if certain politicians are corrupt, you should get a piece of the action? Are you implying that corruption should be shared? Not surprised considering you support the occupation of a people.

But yeah, working for the government means you work for the people. It also implies that you are a model citizen, not a deviant in any way.

At least in the US, diplomatic posts are usually given to people who are friends of the administration, ie people who raise money. Most of them are fabulously wealthy to begin with and lead lives that most of us have no idea about.

My guess is, same thing for most other Democracies, Israel included. Some people are sexual deviants, that's true no matter where you come from, or what ethnicity you are.

The only real problem here as it relates to Israeli politics or their society, is if this guy has had these types of problems in the past and it was swept under the rug. Then there appears to be some apathy towards this kind of stuff.

Does it reflect badly on him and perhaps Israel? Yes, but I'm also pretty sure that the question, "Do you like being tied up and sodomized with rubber dorks?" wasn't on the application to be a diplomat...because...it's not relevant to his job.

I haven't read anything even approaching illegality, he's just a freak.

LOL

Apparantly he was still tied up (bound) when found:

Reports say he was able to identify himself to police only after a rubber ball had been removed from his mouth.
