I don`t mean to sound all pro-Israel ...............but I am in favor of this move by Israel!!

http://news.yahoo.com/israel-weighs-ban-un-human-rights-council-probe-133713128.html

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israeli Cabinet ministers were in an uproar Sunday over the U.N. Human Rights Council's plan to investigate Israeli settlement in the West Bank and east Jerusalem, and some urged that the panel be banned from entering Israel and the Palestinian territories.

Israel's Security Cabinet, made up of senior ministers, was set to meet later Sunday to discuss the planned visit, an official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because the meeting's agenda was classified.

Last week the U.N. council voted to send a fact-finding team to investigate Israeli settlement construction in a resolution that also condemned such activity. It was one of five resolutions critical of Israel passed on the same day.

Israel accuses the council of having a pronounced anti-Israel bias because of its disproportionate focus on Israeli policy and actions toward the Palestinians, while it ignores human rights abuses in countries such as Iran and Arab nations.

"It's clear the Palestinians are preparing a Goldstone 2 (report)," Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon, who wants the council banned, told Israel Radio on Sunday.

Ayalon was referring to a U.N.-commissioned report by South African jurist Richard Goldstone about Israel's war in the Gaza Strip three years ago, aimed at stopping daily rocket attacks.

Its allegation that Israeli forces intentionally fired at Palestinian civilians triggered outrage in Israel and widespread condemnation of its wartime conduct. Goldstone later retracted that accusation.

The Israeli official said Cabinet ministers would also discuss how to respond to this week's planned marches toward Israel's borders announced by pro-Palestinian activists in Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Egypt. The plans have touched off jitters in Israel because last May, thousands of Arab protesters took Israel by surprise marching on its frontiers, sparking clashes that killed at least 15.

March 30 marks Land Day, a traditional day of protests by Arab-Israelis and Palestinians against the Israeli confiscation of Arab land.

Gee, Israel continues to resist actions taken against its numerous human rights violations. Never saw that coming.

Time for to hit the panic button and call for AIPAC to save Israel.

But even as an Israeli government critic, I have to admit Netanyuhu has a propaganda playbook that so far withstands UN efforts to get a reasonable compromise and move towards a Palestinian State.

The question in my mind and somewhat my hypothesis on this thread is that almost everyone in the world no longer believes a word of Netanyuhu bullshit. Yet, because its still more convenient at present, the larger world allows the Palestinian issue to still get kicked down the road.

A very dangerous condition for Israel and an even more dangerous one for Netanyuhu, who by now is convinced he is the man with the golden tongue. And its hardly rocket science to predict that Netanyuhu will soon over reach, and discover no one, not even the USA will stand with him or Israel.

I can already hear the loud chorus of of Israeli fan clubber derision as the will also deny that I get any of my predictions right. But I will submit, my predictions are already happening and at a ever faster pace. (1) Israel is already on probation for its rape of Lebanon, and now it has international war crimes charges still pending over its rape of Gaza. (2) Three years ago, Israel could get some support from Egypt, Turkey, and Jordan. Today Egyptian support is dubious, Turkish support is kaput, and Jordan is disgusted with Israel. (3) When Obama called for an Israeli settlement freeze in 2010, IMHO, he did the right thing. But then Netanyuhu played the AIPAC card and politically out maneuvered Obama. But the USA is only 25% of the quartet that is supposed to be judge and jury over solving the Israeli Palestinian questions. In terms of the EU, Netanyuhu has alienated that block by telling them to mind their own business. That leaves Russia as the other 25% of the Quartet, as a history of mutual Russian Israeli co-operation can be written on a postage stamp with room to spare. Sadly the UN can seeming only act with world consensus behind it, but UN Israeli co-operation is another tiny history.

I'm sure Syria will show them the error of their ways. Perhaps Iran by the way they obstruct the IAEA. Then there's China who has killed more of their people than the population of many nations. Then there's the Russians with their beneficent oligarch and former KGB leaders. Yeah Israel can learn a lot from these people.

By whom is it on probation. Probation implies that one has broken the rules and will be punished unless that stand in line.

We are unaware that you have such world power - very impressive :p

International war crimes may be hanging over Israel's head but those that want the destruction of Israel. when the Palestinians and Arabs are also held to the same standard; then concern can be felt.

(2) Three years ago, Israel could get some support from Egypt, Turkey, and Jordan. Today Egyptian support is dubious, Turkish support is kaput, and Jordan is disgusted with Israel.

Egypt puts out a statement stating that it will not allow fuel to be run through Gaza - it must come according to agreements with Israel.

Turkey feels that it's human lives are more important than a little political dust off.

Jordan wants the Palestinian issue out of their hair - they have no problems with trade with Israel.

(3) When Obama called for an Israeli settlement freeze in 2010, IMHO, he did the right thing.

Your opinion;
My opinion, Obama has no legal right to interfere with affairs of a foreign country.

He has the right to make a statement in this regard that does not obligate the US. Also, he made such a statement knowing that Congress would not back him up - it was for political pandering only.

the Palestinians had an agreement with Israel that they refuse to follow up. they are trying to play two sides; they can not straddle the fence much longer; the splinters are starting to show.

Well well well as EK says, "My opinion, Obama has no legal right to interfere with affairs of a foreign country."

Well, EK, if that applies to the USA and Obama, it should apply even more to Israel and Netanyuhu. As for the USA running a less aggressive foreign policy, I agree with you as US quagmires are a wee mite expensive and counter productive. But without US total support, Israel would have been forced to get out of the West Bank and Gaza decades ago.

Israel is now the new Taiwan, as they too thought the USA would always back them as they pretended to be the real government of China. But then then is the old song, She will have fun fun fun, until daddy takes her T-bird away.

Congratulations EK, you just dissed the real owner of Israel's T-bird. Taiwan also thought they could trust the GOP. As the former government of South Africa went the same way.

It appears that US thinking wins.
There may well be legitimate grounds for concern, however the nations I picked aren't comparable in terms of human rights, however they have a vested interest in detracting from their own true horrors and pretend to sit in judgement. Hardly an impartial body. I'll invoke Godwins law here and say it would be a bit like the Nazi's sitting in judgement of a human rights case. That there may be cases worth noting and addressing hardly gives the judge in this case much credibility in terms of perspective. Think the Nazi comparison to the Chinese purges isn't comparable? Well perhaps that's just we in the US who see both as abominations.

How about getting rid of the real criminals then investigating, or are you asserting that their crimes have no bearing on their judgment or motivation?

By whom.
The Arabs tried and failed?
You expect the UN so send in troops?
Or another Arab Israeli war blesses by the UN?

Also, there is no country of Gaza or the West Bank.
Without US support, the problems of Gaza and West Bank would have been resolved 45 years ago. And also the multiple times that the US saved the Palestinian asses from everytime they thought they should not be held accountable for their actions.

Slight difference between Israel and Taiwan.
Great attempt to tie the two together, but they are worlds apart.

Maybe the Haybasus delusion, is being basically being blind to a Israeli human rights record that is on a per capita basis is arguably as bad as any nation in world history.

On the Godwin's law principle, Hitler, Stalin, and Tojo, did far more damage in a far shorter time period as they led far larger nations. But Israel may be arguably become the champ on a per capita basis, as Israel has have done perhaps more damage to human rights because Israel is far smaller, and has gotten away with raping human rights for far longer.

As we can also compare an Israeli apartheid government with its South African almost exact apartheid equivalent. South Africa got away with it for far longer than the Israeli equivalent of now 64 years, but when time expired on South African bullshit, the South African government government fell at nearly the speed of light.

As I can I say, as a US citizen, that the USA has not run a smart foreign policy, as we back the wrong nations as we try to prevent the inevitable world changes. As it only results in a long series of one more expensive and losing US quagmires after another.

I fully realize I am regarded as a US heretic, as I suggest the USA is backing the wrong horse and the blank check given to Israel. As we fail to realize, as a US nation founded on separation of church and State and equal human rights to all citizens, that the USA and Israel have nothing in common. And also fail to realize, that while Nazi Germany was wrong in saying Jews had no human rights based on hereditary guilt, yet we go gaga over Israel who also say, Palestinians have no human rights either due to the exact same hereditary guilt principle.

I know. It's a shame that Israel is a jewish state which is run based on secular laws while your esteemed Iran is completely based on religion. While we're talking per capita, what is the rate for Israel killing it's own citizens? Hey while you are at it, what is the per capita rate of violence committed by Hamas? Your statistics should be enlightening. The facts are that compared to those you defend Israel is pathetic if the standard is damage inflicted. Your side is far better at it.

Now as I said if someone wants to investigate perhaps they ought to put their house in order, or is wholesale slaughter of a nations people not a deterrent of objectivity? No, I suppose you wouldn't find it a problem at all.

You probably don't want to get into the per capita deaths as they relate between the Palestinians and the Israelis. The Israelis are lapping the Palestinians several times over.

Also maybe its time to examine the new Jediy signature, as he maintains,

" Atreus21 --Once Israel accepts the violence(that is perpetrated against them), peace can finally reign.

JohnOfSheffield -- That said, Palestine will exist when they understand that Israel exists, it's that blatantly simple!
****
Hayabusha Rider -- If you think there's a real equivalency between how NATO conducts itself and the Taliban there's not a lot of room for discussion."

As the Jediy delusion is to assume any of their pronouncements has any validity beyond a US biased forum or that any of the real world leaders ever heard of any of them or take their thinking into any consideration.

As for Atreus21, he is in somewhat in denial that terrorism always follows injustice like stink on shit. We in the USA should have followed the same British bullshit after 1776, and we should be still singing God save the Queen.

As for JOS, he is back in the UK with his mission failed and defeated.

As for Haybasusa Rider, he may be a anand tech elite member, that and a dime will buy buy ten pennies in any US bank.

Moonbeam -- You know if Moonbeam makes fun of you, then something is truly wrong!!

As for Moonbeam, he may be very Zen, as he has some interesting perspectives, but the idea that Moonbeam has any world following is absurd.

As for Israel and its future viability, the question is and remains, will Bozo Netanyuhu extremism stand the test of time? When an Israeli strategy of moderation might be far more viable in a longer term.

As Israel tries an all or nothing gamble that is rapidly unraveling. As Israel asserts its the newest master race.

You want to show how Israel has committed the same sort of atrocities as the nations I cited?

You failed to note that I didn't say that there shouldn't be investigations but I did say that murderers of their own people might not be the ones to do it. But then again perhaps that's not important just as long as anyone gets the jews?

You want to get into the per capita enemies the Israelis have? How about the number of Israeli leaders who have stated they want to exterminate another nation? The Israeli's could wipe their opponents off the face of the earth today and they haven't.

Oh, I believe that Iran has a greater number of sorcerers in office than Israel, well according to Iran.

You know for someone who complains about people playing the race card, you're awfully swift to pull out the anti-semite card. Not that a vile accusation like that even deserves a response. You should be ashamed of yourself.

I'm anti human rights violators. That includes policies by Syria, Iran, the United States, and Israel. Israel is a serial human rights violator, and they should absolutely be investigated. Furthermore, Syria and Iran would not be the ones investigating it, the HCR's resolutions request that the High Commissioner on Human Rights and his appointed Special Rapporteurs to conduct an investigation. So now that your concerns about murderers of their own people are assuaged, do you support an investigation into Israel's long record of human rights violations?

I don't see Syria or Iran on this council.

I see a lot more what you would term *good* countries then the *bad* ones.
You don't suppose they vote and stuff and come to these conclusions?
