Israel to build 22 new settlement homes, say it doesnt violate the road map, yet it does

The Israel Lands Authority
issued a tender Thursday
morning for the units in the
Neve Dekalim settlement,
despite U.S. pressure on Israel
to curb settlement activity as
part of the road map peace
plan.

The tender announcement comes

just days after Prime Minister Ariel Sharon
told U.S. President George W. Bush that Israel
would remove unauthorized settlement outposts
in the territories.

Peace Now representatives said the increased
settlement activity is more evidence that
Israel is not fulfilling its commitments on the
road map and is causing the peace process to
fail, the report said.

But the Prime Minister's Office dismissed the
accusation, saying the tender doesn't violate
any agreement because the new homes will be
built within the bounds of an existing
settlement,
Army Radio reported.

Israel and the U.S. have agreed that
construction in the West Bank and Gaza is
permitted as long as it remains within the
bounds of existing settlements, the radio
quoted a senior member of Sharon's Washington
delegation as saying.

However, the U.S.-led road map calls for Israel
to freeze "all settlement activity (including
natural growth of settlements)."

Notice how Tom Delay never mentioned the settlements in his speach to the Knesset? Just like everything else they do, they will get away with this as well thanks to the unquestionable support of the US. It's illegal to critisize Israel in the US, unless you want to be labeled an anti-Semite of course.

Imagine a religion starting a state and restricting citizenship to members of their religion only.

Can the US really point to Israel as a model of democracy in the middle east when the electorate is so restricted?

What would happen in the middle east if Israel/Palestine were united and every citizen given one vote? Would Israelis allow democracy to prevail if a vote on an issue ran counter to their wishes?

I'd like to see what the US reaction would be to an Islamic state run under the same rules. We may get to witness just that reaction in Iraq. If the US allows a democracy in Iraq.

We're still working on our own right here at home. And its success is questionable under the current one party rule.

Israeli and international human rights groups have sharply criticised a proposed new law making it impossible for Palestinians to gain Israeli citizenship through marriage.

Supporters say it is necessary for security reasons and to maintain the Jewish character of the state of Israel.

Critics say the law - now before the Israeli parliament, the Knesset - is racist.

Until now, the Israeli interior minister has had the final say on whether Palestinians who marry Israeli citizens can receive citizenship and make a home in Israel.

They will never have peace over there.

The Hasidic Jews are multipling like flys and are overrunning Israel with radicalism. They are as bad as hammas.

Call me an anti-semite then. Israel needs to chill with any settlement expansion until after the map defining Palestine and Israel is srawn off and agreed upon by both sides
