Israel ready to bomb Iran nuke plant

Israel has plans to bomb Iran's Bushehr nuclear-power plant should the facility, now under construction, begin producing weapons-grade material, says the Washington Times.

In their Inside the Ring column, Bill Gertz and Rowan Scarborough quoted 'an insider' as saying, "Israel has mapped out a route its jet fighters would take to destroy what is designed to be a two-reactor plant. A successful strike would ensure that the radical Tehran regime does not develop nuclear weapons. Iran has tested 600-mile-range ballistic missiles that can reach Israel and carry nuclear, biological or chemical warheads."

Israel had bombed the Osiraq nuclear plant near Baghdad in 1981 in an effort to thwart Iraq's nuclear programme.

Under intense American pressure, Iran has recently admitted to a secret nuclear programme, and UN investigators discovered traces of enriched uranium at this plant. Tehran, however, insists that its nuclear programme, which includes a deal with Russia for two more nuclear reactors, is peaceful. Washington is opposed to any nuclear deals with Iran until the International Atomic Agency gives it a clean chit.

According to the Times, "US Central Command has contingency plans for war with Iran, but there is no active discussion of invading a country that President Bush has put in the 'axis of evil'. Still, some in the Pentagon talk unofficially of what would be needed to take out the Bushehr plant."

if they do that, they better make sure the facility is empty of ruskies, because they kill any russians, then they've got trouble on their hands. Russia has plans to build one or two more nuclear reactor facilities in Iran.

Everybody seems to blame Russia for giving nuclear facilities to countries, I'm pretty sure Canada offers similar services.

"Sold", would be the correct term. Yes, Canada has sold some CANDU reactors I believe the reactor sold to India was sold back in the early '70's. After India developed a nuke there was quite the fallout here(Canada). I believe China has also been sold some CANDUs. The CANDU is quite unique, it's the only Nuclear Reactor that still uses Heavy Water for cooling and it's the only widely used system that can use Weapons Grade material as fuel.

PS: Poverty, time to learn to Link....If you use the Reply button on the bottom of a Post(not Quick Reply box), above the Text box there are a number of buttons. The 4th button(http) will bring up a small box, put you URL in it, the box will then popup again after hitting "ok", now put the Text that you'd like displayed in that box, hit ok, voila. I bring this up, because Hyperlinking has been around for nearly 20 years(Apple started it out...on the Desktop) and as such I feel Copy/Paste is below me! ;) :D

They wouldn't want something like a nuclear power objecting to their oppression and massacre of the Palestinians.

Israel should get rid of their nuclear weapons if they expect every other country in the region to remain nuclear free.

Israel should give up their nukes? Bad idea, they dont need to show good will to other countries, they have the U.S. to bully other counties.

I'd hope that Iran would seriously strike at Israel in short order, and HARD, after Israel's attcks on Iran.

Who gave Israel the right to be the Middle East police?

I do believe the Iranians have a reasonably well-prepared jet fighter force in their army.

i'd be surprised. most of their planes are very old, many of them leftovers of the imperial iranian air force. probably very poorly trained for fear of losing the aircraft as well.

unlike Iraq, Iran has not been subject to complete destruction of their armed forces, and subequently 12yrs of sanctions. they are more than capable of defending their country. they do have a navy, they can create complete chaos in the persian gulf and the strait of Hormuz if they want to, and a capable air force. and they do have ballistic missles that can strike Israel, courtesy of North Korea

Israel is not the Middle East police, not even close. Israel represents the "a corporation", and the U.S. is "the investor" who during his spare time like to shoot things.
