get WMDs out of the hands of the rogue-state Israel.

Has anyone heard a feasible plan for doing that? Because the only way I see Israel no longer in possession of it's inventory of nukes is if they use them all. I really cant think of one incentive that anyone could use that would get them to verifiably destroy their nuclear arsenal.

The US could pressure them if it wanted to. Will that happen? No, unless there is major democratic (lowercase for you reading-challenged types) reform in this country.

Ummm, as the Israelis see it, the nukes are their insurance policy for the survival of their country. It's hard to come up with something that trumps that, especially in Israel's situation. What specific pressures is the US going to provide?

why should we pressure them? Israel is a democratic country trying to defend itself from evil monsters. It is surrounded by tyrants on all sides, it needs nukes, just in case.

The US can take away its gigantic funding of Israel. If need be, it could have embargoes. Israel's long-term existance depends on the USA. Granted, Jews and Christian fanatics in the US won't let that happen but I'm talking normatively not in positive terms.

um yea, they will nuke Gaza, so the fallout can drift over Israel, makes sense to me . Israel should not expect or even justify making countries like Iran give up nuclear arms if they themselves are not willing to do it...but the whole problem boils down to muslim countries like Iran not recognizing Israels right to exist.

also, Israel is not a rogue nation. sloppy at time, yes, but not a rogue nation. they need to get rid of Sharon

One person's rogue nation is another person's ally. The international community has repeatedly condemned Israel over its history. Israel has nukes even though it shouldn't. Israel has engaged in tons of agressive acts. I'm not sure what your definition of rogue nation is but Israel fits mine.

as far as I'm aware of Israel is not a party to any treaty that forbids them from having nukes.

Israel got their nukes behind the backs of the countries that backed it, what did the countries who supported Israel do?

Most of the world condemned it except for the US which asked them tto spread their cheeks so the US could kiss their ass more.

Personally, if it were up to me, I would stop the US government from subsidizing Israel. It annoys me that we continue giving money to people who keep spying on us.

However, their short term existance depends on being able to keep the surrounding countries from invading. US support can shift, and Israel can only do so much via lobbyists to affect that. Ultimately, they cannot guarantee perpetual strong US favor. It is just something that is not 100% under their control. Their nuclear arsenal is, however. Why give up a sure thing? Like I said, it is one very big trump card to be able to play, and they are playing for keeps. A US embargo wont do half as much damage as another war.
