Comcast – Expensive, but I really don't have any other options for TV + internet.

Comcast for the win.

People like to bitch about things they *think might* happen at some point in the future but nothing really beats it.

I really like AT&T Uverse. I'm currently paying for 6mb (don't really need any more than that) and I get >7mbps regularly. Plus, Uverse's TV service is the shit. Their Total Home DVR system puts them miles ahead of everyone else. Excellent shit.

Uverse is a wonderful, wonderful product. AT&T hit the nail on the head with this one.

Just got Comast service on Saturday and already have billing issues.

Signed up for service with an online sales rep. Offered $19.99 for the first 6 months for internet service plus $14.17 for basic cable with no install fees.

Went online today to see if a bill was posted and, sure enough, they want full price for internet, cable modem rental fee of $5 (I have my own), and almost $100 in installation fees.

Awesome. Now I get to tangle with their "award winning" customer service. I'm glad I took a screenshot of the conversation I had with the online rep when I signed up.

I know everyone hates on Comcast, but I love em too :). Not once has my DOCSIS 3.0 gone down since they started beta testing here in Minneapolis.

My residential line has never gone down either.

comcast doesn't throttle downloads, i'll tell ya that much! I'll get a picture of my torrents running at 6MB/s if you really want.

I think its hit and miss where you live. Ever since I got my new modem with Comcast it turns its net activity off as soon as I have any upload faster than 20kbps or and upload lasting longer than 5 minutes.

I end up, for instance having to upload images 1 by 1 instead of using a manager since it just shuts off and don't ask me about torrents.

while this thread's here, does anyone have a recommendation for a decent wireless router? I also experience shitty web browsing with BitTorrent open (and am using nowhere close to available bandwidth). I currently have a fairly generic Netgear router that I got for $40, model number escapes me at the moment.

802.11n isn't required as I have no such devices but I guess it'd be nice to have. 4 gigabit ports would be nice. Anyone got a suggestion (specific model or series) for < $100? Also, is it worth looking for one that is compatible with the Tomato firmware project? My current router isn't on their list so I haven't tested it. Apparently it does awesome things to your router.
