I may be changing ISPs soon so I can get DSL. On their website they list a price, and that includes connectivity for 2 computers. Every computer beyond that is another $5/month

My question is, how will they know how many computers I have on my network behind my FREESCO router/firewall?? Are they just expecting you to fess up, or can they tell? I know just enough about networking to get it working, but not much beyond that, as you can likely tell :D

They are probably charging you the extra $5 for extra WAN Ip's. if behind a router you would not need that. I would guess they arent checking to see if you are Nat'ing your LAn in order to whack you for more $$$, but they could tell if you had multiple PC's behind a router if they wanted to.

They normally charge you for extra signon ID's, so you have your own account name and password. You get another public IP.

if thery were to be really pedantic they check your TTL's as your router will drop it by one. iptables in linux can be patched to change the TTL to what ever you wish.

this of course is getting a bit deep but i doubet very much they will ever contact you. I have set up clients on a cable isp in the uk called ntl and the t&c states 2 pcs also i have a client with 25 machines hanging off a 1mbit pipe for nealry a year and ntl havent called once. i wouldnt worry about it if i were you :)

I doubt they have the time nor the inclination to check to see if your running more than one machine. just get the package for a single computer and keep the freesco box, they'll never know.

Yea, Qwest ... modem rental is $2/month for the first year on this deal, then goes back to $5, at which point I'll likely buy one.

Why not buy the modem right away? What's the point of giving them the $24 and then buying the modem?

You think that's bad, try Cox Cable. $15/month for a cable modem rental.
