I have just posted this message to GH but I think it is more relevant here...

Arctic Silver suggest using isopropul alcohol to remove old thermal compound off your core/HSF before applying ASII.

Could anyone please tell me what isopropul alcohol is??

Many thanks.

Longs has it. Just ask for rubbing alcohol, the Long's brand bottle I got has a big "99% Isopropyl Alcohol" on the label.

99% pure isopropyl alcohol?? How much is that for how many ounces? The only alcohol here is 70% and 91%, costing $0.20 and $1.59 a bottle, respectively.

Yeah, there's no need to go crazy and get the 99% pure stuff. The 70% stuff will work fine for 90% of the applications and the 91% stuff will be great for 99% of the applications you could possibly use it for. They were just suggesting that you use a mild solvent that will evaporate quickly. Acetone (nail polish remover) is a little bit stronger solvent but also evaporates very quickly, so it is another good choice.

Actually I was looking for the cheapest cause I never use the stuff. That's why I went Longs brand. The Longs 99% was the same price as the 70% isopropyl (or else I would have bought the 70% stuff).

Anyways, never read anywhere that stronger stuff is bad to use.

BTW, the other 30% you pay for... water. :)

Forgot to put: 16oz
$1.49 @ Berkeley Longs on Shattuck... oh BTW... they are out as of 9:02 AM PST ;)
