Well I have had a few problems but I know some of the people in this forum are very knowlegeable so I'm giving it a shot.
Problem 1) Recovering a NTFS drive
My Maxtor 40gb 7200rpm (5T040H4 ) recently f***ed up and corrupted a part of XP (so, no boot). I put it into another box with XP (running a FAT32 system) and it recognized it in POST & windows but couldnt read it (DOS shell also failed to access it). If I get this drive as a slave into a system running XP on a NTFS drive, will it be able to read it then? It has corrupted a few random files in the past, (just destroying files at random) but MAXblast diagnostic thing says it's ok.
Problem 2) A7V8X + Athlon XP 2000 + Asus GF4 4200 deluxe mystery
1, 2, or all 3 of these are dead. When it died, it was frozen at the windows log on screen. The hard drive I listed above also killed XP around this point in time as well. I'm not sure if this was a mobo problem, or vid card, or both. When I try to boot it, the video card's fan does not spin (no screen activity). Also the board does not make any POST beeps and the red light next to the AGP card (which is supposed to indicate failure) does not come on.
My resources to test them are:
I have a backup system with an A7V133 and a Athlon 1.2 and a GF3. So i can test the GF4 video card in that today, but not sure what to do about testing the mobo and processor. I have a PCI video card I could use to test the mobo as well (in case the AGP slot is somehow malfunctioning).
thanks-- alot -- to any help!
