Isolating a problem

Hey guys, I was going to start selling my old system parts but I didn't want to do so before isolating the problem that caused me to build a new system in the first place... Now I know this might be more difficult seeing as how the parts are now seperated and in their respective boxes, but your opinions and past experiences are what I'm interested in now. My old system consisted of...

Barton 2800+ (oc'd moderately)
Asus A7N8X-X
Radeon 9700 pro w/ vga silencer (oc'd fairly heavily)
1GB (2x512mb) Corsair PC3200

I would see artifacting on screen like this web example only the yellow bars were all pinkish and red. Now I would immediately write this off as a video card problem, seeing as how the card had a fairly long oc'd life, but what worried me is the fact that the artifacts appeared within the BIOS menu and upon boot, I was under the impression that they shouldn't start until Windows opened as the boot sequence graphics are embedded in the motherboard? I just don't want to sell anything that I can't back up with a promise that it will work. So far the only item that I am leaning towards selling is the CPU. Any input would be greatly appreciated, thank you! :)

Definitely sounds like bad memory on the video card, and yes, you'd get artifacts immediately upon power-up.

Isolation of the problem would be fairly easy. Step one would be to try a different vid card.
