Isolated a problem, but don't know how to fix or bypass it

...keep the computer from sending a piece of hardware into standby when I close the lid on my laptop? I'd like to keep this device running, but so far I can't find an option, a hack, or a setting that will allow me to do that. I've done a lot of googling trying to find something, but just can't put my finger on it. I'm running Vista on a MacBook Pro (NOT an apple fan...don't ask).

Have you gone through all the power options accessible in the control panel?

every single one. I've tried going through the sleep/standby/hibernate options as well as the power options in control panel, and looked at the WLAN in device manager. Have I possibly missed something?

I dont have a laptop with vista to check to see if theres a lid option but its should be found in advanced power options....

There's nothing there that will allow me to do what I need.
