ISO, laws about buyer's remorse (kansas)

slag

Lifer
Checking out my maxima today I noticed that they screwed the front license plate holder directly into the bumper!!! On a 30k car, they just drilled holes and screwed it in. How assinine. I thought it would at least have premade holes for the plate from the factory but they scratched the paint and all under the license plate holder.

At any rate, I already signed on the line and the car is mine, but what is the law pertaining to buyers remorse, specifically in kansas. I dont know how much grief they would give me when i mention the holes and scratches, but I could always threaten buyers remorse and take the car back if the law was on my side.

Anyone know the law about buyers remorse?

My grandprix had a specific space for the plate but i guess the maximas dont..

It's a plastic bumper and the license plate covers the holes and is in the place it would be anyway, right? And probably used the holes that a frame would have used, right? Buyer's remorse over the mounting of a front license plate??

Gimme a fvking break!

I know my maxima does not have pre-made holes. I saw a kit at walmart and it said to simply drill a hole in the front of the bumper. I hate the idea so that is why I've yet to do it (I want to put a CAN/US flag on front of car like I have on the sentra). Still though I think it's nothing to worry about - it's plastic. Although they should not have scratched the plastic the holes should be ok if they're placed properly. I would never ever want to return a car based on this unless they hacked the damn thing up 😉

Havent talked to the dealership. I left a message and am awaiting callback, but I am exploring all options.

The holes do not look factory premade.

Kansas does not use front license plates so of course i want to take it off. Taking it off shows 2 gaping holes and some scratches. Sure, I'm not going to give up the car over a couple of holes, lets be real, but who knows, if they wont budge, maybe I could threaten to take it back.. shrug..
I already have them at a disadvantage since my fog lights didnt work on the new car. I am supposed to take it in on Monday for them to fix it. I am thinking I could pay them half or something and have them fix the holes.

I dont suck, but I wouldnt expect holes to be drilled in a front fender. Guess I'm spoiled by my GTP.

I'd say you're SOL on the front holes UNLESS they are drilled badly with paint damage. Then I think you have ever right in the world to demand them to repair the paint so that the bumper is perfect minus the inclusion of two holes of course.

jeebus...just call your salesman and tell him you want it taken care of....if he is any kind of a good salesman he will buy the guy at the body shop lunch and all will be well

Thats what I am thinking/hoping. I did already call him but only got his vmx. Gonna follow up tomorrow morning. I guess if nothing comes of it, I'll just pay the 100 bucks or so to get them fixed. Everything else is perfect on the car but those 2 holes really show on this color of car, sheer silver.

A lot of dealers do that. My parents New Conv. Z28 has holes drilled into the front bumper cover by the dealer so they can put a plate with there name there. I got some black silicone and put it in the holes after I removed their dealer plate :|

yeah...I feel ya..you got a new car and want it to be perfect...but dont be too quick to threaten him...that will just increase your chance of him blowing you off

Thats a good idea. If its more than a hundred bucks or so to fix, I might just find some white or silver color silicone and fill the holes myself.

yeah, we dont need a front plate in kansas.

If it comes down to it, just get a little glazing putty, lot less messier then bondo, fill the two holes and get a can of the matching touch up paint for the car, along with some primer and a little thing of clear coat. Fill, primer, sand, primer, wet sand, paint, wet sand, paint again, wet sand, and then apply a couple coats of clear. If you take your time and mask off the areas you don't want any extra paint, it should come out looking great, not perfect, but good enought most everyone else would never know. Yes, it sounds like a lot of work, but on such a small area it would not be bad at all, just make sure it feel smooth after each sanding, and try to feather the touch up paint into the original paint.

I'm pretty good at autobody work so that shouldnt be a problem, but i dont want to have to do it, thats all.

you want to return a car because of how the license plate is mounted? :Q

slag...heres another hint for ya...when you call the salesman today, start off by telling him that you have a friend looking for a car...talk about that for a couple of minutes, then chime in with, "oh yeah, about my front bumper..." he will fix it for you in hopes of getting another sale off your friend

I'm with you slag, obviously these people acting like it is no big deal are not "car people". Here in Tennessee some of the Nissan dealers drill the front bumpers and put on a bracket just so they can put on one of their own advertisement plates. I would not buy from those dealers-why mess up the appearance of an expensive car when no front plate is required? How about if you bought a new ANTEC computer case and as you were paying for it, a CompUSSR employee drilled a few holes in it to mount their name tag!!!

What do you want them to do about it?
