ISO for a dummy

I bet there's a dozen threads somewhere about this, but I didn't find them in my search.

So anyway, what's the best way to make a backup of my HDD, with ISO or some other format, for free? And if the file is too big, how do I break it up to fit on a couple DVDs?

Are you wanting to backup the entire os and partitions etc? or wanting to just back up specific data?

This is a laptop so there's no partitions to mess with, but yeah, everything.

Use Acronis True Image. That program rocked.

Agree with this 100%!!

It's saying fifty bucks, I don't really have fifty bucks to spend on this. I'm really interested in something free. If I'm missing something and they have a free version, that's cool, but otherwise I'll need something else.

EDIT: I just found the free trial link, but still, is there something I can use long-term that's free?

If you're backing up huge files, how about using an external SATA HDD or mobile SATA racks. Faster and very dependable. The prices are very economical either way.

Nero isn't free

I did try that EaseUs thing, but on startup it wanted me to insert a floppy into drive A, so that fell through.

I asked about DVD because that's what I have, I'm a college student. I'll be a millionaire soon enough, but I'm still working on it, that's why I ask for freeware and DVD stuff. The only huge file I'll be backing up is my disk's ISO, so multiple DVDs are no problem, I just need to know if there's anything I should know about that before I try it. Although, I do have an external drive on my Christmas list, so we'll see what becomes of that.

Either way, I still don't know how to make an ISO (or some other universal format) for free. I know I could do a files and settings transfer, but that doesn't get everything and I want this to be as simple as possible.
