Isn't it great when you get a REALLY good garage/yard sale find?

Bought a Kata video gear bag today worth $240 new for $10 (missing internal dividers but still!). Makes all the trash sorting worth it.

Also bought a Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 USM II lens for $40. 🙂

I got a pretty much unused Honda Harmony lawn mower for $100ish (my mom actually got it and bought other things as well, but the Honda was the big one). It was only used a few times too.

I remember reading about some guy finding a pair of Klipsch Cornwalls, in perfect condition, for $50.

Stories like that make me want to check out garage sales in the summer 😛

That is just crazy.... no matter how many repairs they needed, that is an INSANE deal.

I found a Deluxe Nashville Telecaster for $50. These things aren't very common, and they lady at the church sale actually said "Aww...it doesn't even have strings on it! We only need $35 for it".

I took it home, patched a minor chip in the finish with nail polish, shined it up, and it looks brand new. Best buy ever! It's one of my main axes now.

This is the exact one right here.

There was a garage sale in my neighborhood. I drove by on the way home and the only thing I could spot that could be of any awesomeness was an old-school tyco truck (battery powered one you sit in).

I should go buy it and drive it off the lot.... alt fuels ftw!

You also hear about people finding first edition books or priceless art.

But in reality, you'll run across hundreds of average garage sales before you find that 'deal of a lifetime', if you ever do.

Yeah...they filmed a documentary of the woman that purchased an authentic Jackson Pollack and what it was like for her (not-so-rich southern woman) to meet all these fancy auction house people and people trying to get the painting.

I found a couple of trays of old refillable soda bottles at a garage sale. Bought that + some software + some DVD-Rs all for 15.

Sold the bottles for about 500 total and got a couple hundred out of the software(it was sealed)

Why were the bottles worth so much?

My neighbor sold me a Nintendo 64 for $1. It didn't have any power or video cables, but I meant to buy it as a backup in case mine ever failed.

The "deal of a lifetime" is generally not something you should expect, but if you go to the right garage sales at the right time (i.e., go on the first day, early, and preferably to estate or moving sales), you can find good deals fairly often.

I just missed buying a full size canoe in excellent condition for $125 on Friday. Wife would have killed me, but that was a great deal. My Mom bought me an entire set of Oneida stainless flatware in practically unused condition for $10 back when I was in law school. Found a Sony Playstation 2 awhile back in working order for $50.

I've also found tons of useless stuff that was just interesting. My wife hates it when I do that. 😉
