Isn't Altec Lansing good?

I always hear & read reviews about Logitech, Creative, Labtech, Klipcsh speakers of how good & bad they were but so far I seldom hear or read about Altec Lansing speakers. Are they so bad that no one wants to talk, review or recommend them? I am actually looking for a set of speaker & since I can't find Logitech Z-540 here at my country, I'll just have to op for other altenatives. The problem is that at my country, Altec Lansing & Creative speakers are the favorites. Though I can find Logitech Soundman DSR-100(4.1) but since it's not a favourite speaker brand here, I can't compare the sound quality. I am really lost here. Can anyone please help? Should I go for the Logitech SoundMan 4.1 or just get something else from the Altec Lansing & Creative line of speakers?

But if compare with Logitech & Creative speakers, which is better? BTW, I use it more for games & hope to get a speaker system with balanced performance. Not too strong on the bass & not to high on the pitch too.

Altec Lansing are good quality speakers that have been around for many years.. pretty much since computers first started having powered/shielded speaker combos. I've had mine since 96 and they're still working good(an old 2.1 system with Phantom Surround). You can find some really decent ones too like the ADA305 (2.1 system with surround that sounds like 4.1), or the ADA880W with Dolby Digital, or any other 4.1 system(I'm not sure if they have a 5.1). I like them better than Creative. Check out some reviews on the net on a specific system that you want to know about and you should find what you are looking for. Ie. Do a google search for "ada305 review" for instance.

Altec speakers are generally pretty good. I have ACS295's, ATP3's, and ACS345's (IBM-label) speakers and they all sound great. There must be 20 Altec models available at the moment - often more than 1 in any given price range. Listen to them and see which ones you like.

I would buy Altec before Logitech or Creative.

ACS56 speakers here I like the way they sound and I paid $60.00 for them so no complaints here

As far as powered computer speakers go, I've allways liked AL's.

Of course I'ev never used them for extended periods of time, but I know many people who use them full time, and they allways sound good to me.

<< I like mine acs54,sounds good even its 3 yrs old. >>

Same here. Mine are still pumping out the music after lots of use. They sound good with movies, games and music.

If you get the Altecs get the ACS56's as the are much louder than the Logitech Z540's. I know because I have a set of the ACS56's and my sister just bought the Z540's. They sound good but they ain't as loud as my ACS56's.
