Well, I'm sure no one would be surprised to see an american flag being ripped and burned in Bahdad, Tehran or Gaza, but I didn not expect this despicabe behaviour from new yorkers.

<< The few Toronto fans who braved the trip to Uniondale, N.Y., were harassed in the parking lot, including a couple with a big Canadian flag and a smaller Maple Leafs pennant hanging out their car windows. Both were torn off and set on fire in front of the shocked visitors. >>

I've always thought hockey fans were the most passionate, but obviously that's WAY over the line. I'm a Rangers' fan in the middle of Philly, though, and something like that doesn't surprise me all that much, unfortunately, knowing the Atlantic Division and the cities involved.

Most of us definitely aren't, but for whatever reason hockey fans do seem to be the most fanatical of the most popular 4 sports (in America). Although, having been at the Vet in the 700 level of an Eagles/Cowboys game, it wouldn't surprise me to see some team emblem-burning going on there with all the drunks. :p

Who woulda thought. I live 15 minutes from the Nassau Coliseum. I can't imagine ISLANDER fans would act like this (I'm a Caps fan). I guess this playoff passion has been bottled up in them for too long (7 years - haha suckers)... mix that in with some anger from the Tucker and Roberts "hits" and you've got some P.O.'d fans.

Then again, you have the fans who just hate other fans just because.

Either way, it's no way to act toward FANS of other teams. They had nothing to do with any of it. Get a clue. Booing the Canadian anthem? My friend who attended said it was only a few people who did (not everyone or most)... beware the generalizations.

Those people really disgust me. I bet the first thing they would do is try to kill someone that burned a US flag. People take sports to seriously. It's a freaking game people. Grow up.It would have been one thing to chant USA during the game, which is kinda dumb to do in hockey, cause a majority of the players are Canadian or European, it's completely wrong to burn anyones flag.

We'll p!ss in your beer, throw things at you, and even physically assault you.
We'd never burn your flag...you'd surely end up in the Vet Stadium Jail.
Philly fans might not have class, but we still have MORALS :)

Or better yet try a Giants vs Dodgers game or Niners vs Cowboys. I know someone who is a cop and he has worked many a sporting event. He told me that he spends the whole time at a game just breaking up fights and keeping apart rival fans and even rival gang members from ripping each other apart at these games.

I'd call the Islander fans morons, but Maple Leaf fans in Toronto will most likely try to top
this level of stupidity back in T.O. during game 7.

BTW, what the hell is with that stupid fan chant thing after Islander goals in NY? It makes
me cringe every time.

A lot of common thugs seem to use the excuse of sports enthusiasm to practice their own brand of terrorism and destruction.

When I first read your topic I thought "Damn marty is over-exaggerating!!!" but then I read this and realized you weren't:

<< Just hours after Canadians shed tears at a memorial service for four soldiers killed by a U.S. bomb in Afghanistan, American hockey fans booed our national anthem at last night's playoff game on Long Island.

The unsportsmanlike conduct marks the third time in a week that the Canadian national anthem was greeted by loud boos during playoff games in the U.S. against Toronto teams.

"This was obviously the worst night," Toronto Sun hockey writer Lance Hornby said. "You couldn't hear the anthem for the first part." Hornby said it ended with chants of "U-S-A!, U-S-A!" and some applause.

All of those people should be shot. Unbelievable. And you wonder why canucks have bad opinions on the average american. It's inbred freaks like this that give USA a bad name. Booing our f'ing anthem? Are we your enemy or something? Never once have I been to a sports game of any kind where the American anthem is booed.

Incredible.

Vancouver is the pot smoking capital of Canada ;) Seriously though, that's just as bad to me. :|

BTW, $10 says it was after the americans first booed our game. This is the 3rd time for us so far.

They booed in Montreal too. People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
