Not a surprise. Islam was part of the underlying current that toppled the regimes in the "Arab Spring", and radical islam will be quick to fill the void left by the dictators. I'm not so sure that any of these situations are going to ultimately be any better than they were under the dictators.

Bottom line, they dumped a repressive dictator and are going to replace him with a repressive religious dictator.

Yep. And a religious dictatorship that will thank us by hating us and rejoicing when the next 911 hits us.

What makes you think that this will go differently? They don't like your messiah any more than they liked any other US president. The extremist form of Islam has no tolerance for infidels. If they take over, what makes you think it will be differrent?

Hardly clueless. Just another example of liberals throwing out the devil we know for the devil we don't know.

Who cares... they're both devils. Don't make this into a "liberals suck!!" thing when it's clear that everyone, liberal and conservative alike, is to blame.

I want to hear about what we can do to get something that's both permanent and good for the free world to happen.

Lookout guys, the first election of the Arab Spring in Tunisia has happened, and the incredible disaster of a moderate Islamist party with stated progressive ideals and a special place for women's rights has emerged as the winner.

NEW CALIPHATE STARTING IN TUNISIA, AMIRITE?

Well looking at how the rebels paraded Godhafi's dead body (yeah I am sure there is something in Islam about the treatment of dead body), they are just replacing one barbarian for another.

Sadly US is somehow involved again and if anything bad happens in that country in the future, people is gonna say the US and the west caused it.

http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/238100/20111026/gaddafi-gadhafi-dead-gadhafi-al-jazeera-nato.htm

The rebels are expunging the previous leader and his followers. Sure obama got rid of a dictator by allowing U.S. jets to fly NATO missions... but look at what has been unleashed.

So when your Lord and Savior Reagan actually attempted to kill him back in the 80's but failed, what was that?

People change in 20-30 years. Gaddaffi of the 80s is not the same Gaddaffi of the last decade. I don't care that they democratically vote for Islamist things, that's great, more power to them. The fact remains, in Libya, the rebels are not a majority, they have been led by Islamist groups since the beginning and they were enemies of our Ally in the region Gaddaffi. That is until the "Arab Spring" and Western powers got nervous over their oil supply. Helping in Tunisia, Syria or Egypt would have been much more in line with American values and what truly are peoples revolutions.

Can do and should have done over 40 years ago, wean ourselves off cheap oil and invest in alternative energies as a strategic national policy for the long term instead of kow towing to the Saudi's who use their oil wealth of billions to spread their ideology and version of Islam.

The more energy independent a nation becomes the freer it is, even though many here would argue that the price is too high, in the long term cheaper ends up being more expensive.

Well, given that most of our (the USA) oil comes from Canada that's not really going to solve anything. I agree we should be more energy-independent, I just don't think it's going to matter much in the Middle East.

Was Ghadaffi a Majority?

He had roughly the same amount of people backing him, maybe more, than the rebels early on. Rebels gained more power as we came in and started blowing shit up. This was such a cluster fuck. Never would have thought Hilary was such a war hawk.

Seems that we have done this in the last 3 "conflicts" and all are on the same final destination ---- "USA Hate".

You bloody well know better than that:

1. Afghanistan, there was an attack, they refused to give up the leader of Al Quaida.
2. Iraq, because the war in Afghanistan was almost over and the spread of Al Qauida via open channels (we left every site and the border unprotected at a time we had the ability to actually finish the war).

3. Libya, France and the UK were calling the shots, NATO missions are NATO missions and this one was sanctioned by the UN, we did not kill Khadaffi, i can tell you that much, the bullsheit about him being caught in crossfire was bullsheit. While we had men there there was no crossfire from any of us, just targeting for incoming to stop the caravan, as far as i know he had no shrapnel in his body or even one NATO 5.56.

The Libyans know full well and so do the Syrians at this point, that is why Assad is so fucking scared.

He knows he can't go on without making deals. The example was set, the war is over, now it's for the people to rebuild.

No, America as in the US government preach "do as we say" and "you are with us or against us" and nothing more than that.

And i'm not so sure that Americans IN America preach tolerance and acceptance either.
