We currently have an EICON DIVA ISDN Modem where I work at and want to upgrade to a ISDN router. The question I have is that most of the Routers I have seen have a U (BRI) connector. Ours, according to the EICON website supports a S/T or U (integrated NT-1) interface (RJ45). What exactly is the difference between the two? Also what is BRI?
 
Get the U interface. It has a builtin in NT1 interface. S/T needs an external NT1. Just another piece of equipment to mess with and break.

The telco hands you a interface signal. BRI stands for basic rate interface and has two 56/64 kbit B channels that can be used for voice or data. BRI also includes a D channel for call setup and signaling.

I think network termination. Is the interface between customer equipment and ISDN network. pretty useless nowadays when you have BRI interfaces with a built-in NT1 (U interface)
