I have sound card that i think is isa but the back slot is shorter than a normal isa back slot. (Its not PCI) Is there anything else it could be? Should I just shove it in there and hope it works? Wasnt there some old mca or something that looked kinda like isa? I dont want to damage the board. thanks

isa slots have like two segments. i've had an isa modem that only had one segment. so if it fits easily into the isa slot, i'd say it's a safe assmption it's an isa card.

MCA looked similar to PCI. MCA cards usually had a blue or red plastic bracket along the top side of the card.

This is what an MCA card looks like.

This page has a picture of a VLB card. (Never seen a VLB sound card, VLB was usually video.)

If it doesn't fit perfectly and if you can't see that the traces match perfectly with the slot contacts, don't do it. Bzzzerrtt! Poof! Those miniature mushroom clouds can stink up the house for days.....

Im really not sure what this card is even now. I just know its definately not isa or pci so that makes it useless to me.

wish you could describe it better or send a picture....

Any model numbers or identifying features of the card?
Chip names? Manufacturer? With that information you could look it up on the net. Or I could.... I have a fascination for sound cards. :D:D:D
Reply back in here with all the numbers and info you can from the card - I'll figure out what it is in a jiffy.
