I am trying to help a relative with his computer. He has the IS7 and the infamous northbridge fan is dying so I planned to just replace it but was told the heatsink was large enough to sustain without the fan so just unplug it. The problem is we are getting a hugely obnoxious alarm sound (siren really) and I need that to be GONE. Is there a way to disable the alarm in the bios?

thanks

Hmm, took me a little while to locate a suitable server to get the is7's manual...The main site abit links to on their global and usa websites seems broken ATM(IE, sends a few KB, and then quits). If you need the link, it's avaliable here:

ftp://ftp.abit.com.tw/pub/download/manual/english/is7.pdf

BTW, if you need one of the other manuals, just strip the is7.pdf portion off to browse the directory.

My bset guess is that the option you need is in PC Health Status, called "FAN Fail Alarm Selectable". Pick the NB fan, and then shut down the alarm for it. Page 78 of the manual.

Hope this helps. :)
