Is Zero a number?

XZeroII

Lifer
There is much debate (from what I understand) on this question. I would say that it is a number. Why? Because it appears on the number line. Anyone know what this whole controversy is about?

Yes, 0 is a number

Anything divided by 0 is the same number, just because its 0 doesn't mean its not a number.

EDIT: Sorry, yeah, duh, I knew that 🙂

Its infinite.

No it's not a number. Zero represents the lack of a number. It doesn't represent a value in itself.

So you think black is not a color?

this, too, is not an easy debate.

black and white ... in their true form, BOTH, describes the presence of all colors and absence of all colors.
it depends on the perspective.

say you have a card painted in black.
when it is lit, it absorbs all colors in the light and reflects nothing (... of course this is theorhetical)... hence you see black.
so you can say that black absorbs or contains all colors.

but at the same time, it reflects no color, so you can say that it is the absence of all colors.

i'm not sure if i'm making any sense here... but that's as far as my understanding goes.

going back to the original question... is black a color?
yes and no.

um, i think you're confusing the number 0 with the number 1...go ahead and try and divide by 0

I would say no.

It's like Black and White, they're not colors, they are LACK of color.

Actually white is the presense of all the colors, equally and uniformly.

Zero, a number!

they used zero as a placeholder in another number. For example, in our notation: 216 is a different number than 2016. Zero, in its place-keeping function, is a kind of punctuation mark to help us interpret numbers correctly. Zero is a count of nothing.
