Its amazing how many nerds are beer snobs. Beer snobs are some of the most annoying people to have a drink with. Most of the people posting in this thread exemplify that.

You are allowed to LIKE a lot of this stuff. The fact that people like Charlie Sheen movies is testament to that, but somehow calling anybody a snob for calling alcoholic carbonated pisswater what it is? That is just insecurity because you seem to think that there is something special about YOUR pisswater.

The stuff in the list is awful. Terrible. If you want to call me a beer snob because I refuse to drink Natural Light or Coors products, be my guest. I assure you, however, that when I drink a nice beer, I don't sit around and discuss hop counts or whether or not I detect subtle hints of oak from being stored in oak kegs. No. I drink beer to enjoy it. That is not possible with Milwaukee's Best or Old Milwaukee, or anything on that list. Sure, if all you care about it getting drunk, those things will work, but my god, the taste is awful.

This list is VERY dogmatic?

Milwakies Best Ice should not be on this list. In terms of alcohol per dollar, this beverage can not be beat. This was the standard beer among my engineer friends who did the "trade study". We affectionalty called it diesel while the normal milwakie's Best was called unleaded.

Actually, it can.

All you have to do is know the barleywines that have not become popular.

Brooklyn Monster, before it was known, was being sold at the taps for the same price as a regular brew. Brooklyn Chocolat Stout was the same.

They are both over 10% ABV. (Common pilsner/lager is usually about 5%, give or take).

But the key here is not booze bombing. You can just get some vodka rotgut for cheaper than that (popov anyone? LOVE those plastic bottles! :p). Taking some of that stuff and mixing it with Fresca will give you the same as the chick-drunk-drinks they have been pushing for the past 15 (after the wine cooler era) for a lot less.

I still get a kick out of trying to make Mikes "hard" lemonade manly. It may be tasty, but it is still far from Manly.

Back OT, Keith Stone? OMG! I just can't believe ANYONE would find him a role model to live their life like and buy the same beer! I know it is a joke, but sadly, he is probably closer to reality (3' slimjim et all) than not....

This is proof that Pabst Blue Ribbon is delicious.

I'll admit, PBR is better than Bud, Coors, and Miller. My wife enjoys it and it is becoming a "cool" beer to drink. If I needed a beer, we only had PBR at home, and we had 2 feet of snow on the ground or I was too lazy to go get some good stuff, I'd drink it.

I usually just think two things:

1. I wonder if there is any more
2. What food would this go best with? (hungerz)

PS Milwaukee's Beast.

OMG, so many piss-water drinkers getting all defensive!

Face it, all light beer sucks. It basically cuts the balls of a regular beer for all those people who are afraid of going off their diets when drinking during beer-pong.

As for the other? All you have to do is look at some of the names. One was, what, "Camo Silver Ice High Gravity Lager"??? WTF is that? Silver Ice? In Camo? During High Gravity? I wonder if they came out with a Camo Silver Ice High Gravity Light!

As for snobs, that is a funny one. There are beer snobs out there that will take your average drinking beer like a good Yueng Black and Tan and criticize it for not using the right percentage of hops or the right aging time, etc etc, but most beer drinkers, including a lot of them on that site, just love beer and will not rate a natty Ice Light (yes, they had light "Ice" beers) on par with a well poured nitro Guiness, or a good Brooklyn Monster Ale.

As for other things?

Dominos /= Grimaldis
Beefsteak Charlies (DOA) /= Ruth Chris (still a chain!)
Olive Garden /= Italian ;)

You are allowed to LIKE a lot of this stuff. The fact that people like Charlie Sheen movies is testament to that, but somehow calling anybody a snob for calling alcoholic carbonated pisswater what it is? fav beer snob post ever. thank you, sir.

They do the same thing with their pizza and hamburgers too...talk about a buzzkill.

Beer, pizza and burgers are 3 things that are good even when they are bad.

I drink a ton of beer. I used to be a Guinness Stout guy, for my style of drinking...the lighter beers are much more satisfying. My beer of choice is Mich Ultra. It's not so much the calories, but rather the light taste. I pound the shit down like water though rather than nurse a few beers at a time.

Tequila is my other favorite, but I end up consuming it too fast.

I go through almost ten 64oz cups of water in a day though as well :)

Lol,
I generally stick to Ales, but, PBR is not bad for a generic lager. I'll drink any beer, but, PBR is the best of the cheapies IMO. Now, if they raise the price, then it won't be worth it, and I'll just buy my Goose Island, Rogue, Ommegang, Allagash, Three Floyds, and/or Dogfish head....

Went through the same with Sam, then Pete's, then even Saranac.

It is usually when they start advertising. About a month after the first ad, their cases go up by $2-$4... :p

These microbrew things were created when everyone was buying McMansions, getting the bike or sportscar, a full set of MAC tools and building man caves.

They never come close to redlining the bike/car or even break the speed limit, they have only used their MAC Tools to hang a few pictures and their man caves are now 'family rooms'.

They needed something more manly to replace what they lost and the red wine in a long stemmed class just wasn't cutting it.

So they created these products and even name them fruity like wines are.

blablabla
Lots of micro-brews are breweries that have brewed the same styles for over a hundred years. (Look at the Trappists for example)

Lots of the micro-brews in the USA brew styles that have existed for hundreds of years.

Maybe 10% of micro brews are "brew more manly things", but, I'd say that's at best a small percentage. (stuff like 120 minute IPA, or dark lord)

PS... what's wrong with having a man cave? Dedicated HT rooms are fvcking awesome.

I love me some High Life Light. Bottles please. PBR in a bottle ain't too shabby either.

And I equally love (for different reasons) a nice malty Belgian Quad or a light devouring black hole of a Breakfast Stout.

Also...what kind of self respecting shitty beer list doesn't have Steel Reserve or Lacrosse Lager on it?

Shitty beer is like a guilty indulgence to me. It's like eating potato chips or cheetohs. They aren't gormet food by any means. But at some times they just hit the spot.

I've tried a bunch on that list, but I do not drink any of them regularly. There is simply no reason to do so, you can find very good cheap beer everywhere these days without having to resort to the crappy stuff on that list.

You spoiled brats. In my day cheap beer was Blatz, Black Label, Hams, Blue Ribbon, Old Heidelberg. All of them tasted like hell. After you become accustom to the taste. You spent the next day with a bottle of aspirin and a bottle of Keopetate to restore order. If this stuff did not create havoc on your insides. Then you were just another welfare case drinking too much of the crap. Then Coors comes out with Keystone, the no offensive no taste beer. The rest of the low end crap changes their recipe to the same to no offense no taste model. This may sound like another grandpa walking 15 mile to school in the snow story but it’s the f@ckin truth.
