Place the side of your forearm on the edge of a table and see if it sits flat. Mine does not. I wonder what purpose this curve serves. Less susceptible to shock?

hmm. hard to tell. i placed mine flat on the surface. but my arm automatically lifted straight up and formed a 90 degree angle at the elbow. the clenched fist loosened a bit, however, all fingers stayed down, with the exception of the middle finger. it looks like this now:

Does anyone have less purpose or more time than this one here?

It looks a lot like this:

Bones get their main shape from their purpose, but they get the smaller shapes from interactions with other parts of your anatomy. Believe it or not, lots of muscles attach to bones in our body. (that's right, I said it.) The stresses these muscles put on the bones will dictate their final shape, along with use of course.

Or it was part of an intelligent design.

Nature doesn't seem to have much use for flat surfaces.

One reason for engineers' love of flat surfaces and edges is that it makes the math soooo much easier.
(It doesn't necessarily make a device work any better, but it will certainly make it much easier to prove that it's going to fall apart. :))
