Is your score important?

Ya know...your 3d mark score..is it important that you reach a certain number???

Im stuck at 10800 with ma machine and you know what...i dont give a @#$% about it going down or up haha...but i know lots of ya will spend fortune in cooling system juuust to get it up lol

^^ they are synthetic benchmarks, and i get a completely different score each time. my highest with a 6800gt stock (370/1000) is 11462. i have never reached that again and my average is about 11300. its the games and the fps in them that matter to me, since you don't play 3dmark. i also have a sh1tty hp case that has no intake fan and is the size of 2 shoeboxes. when i put in my new case it should be better.

It's important in that I use it as a test to see if I'm getting what I should be getting. I run it when I first get my card to test it out and then usually uninstall it.

I run it whenever I get a new card. Just to see where it scores and to see if there are any drivers screwing up if I don't get an approximatescore. Other than that no I don't NEED to getto a piticular number.

Not really. They make good bragging rights but they really don't change your comp. There's no noticeable difference between 4500 and 5500, just numbers. As long as your comps runs and you like it, that's what matters.

tell's me that i'm where i should be, gives me an idea of what new drivers are like (actually how good ati is getting at optimising for 3dmark 😉), and they look pretty while they are running 🙂

Well you using your bench marks correctly thats for fact .Nice post

I use it to check if things are running alright. The other day I noticed my score was low, after cleaning the drivers and re-installing my 3dmark05 went from ~4700 to ~5200. My previous X800 pro was making the XT look like 12 pipes somehow.

Mine kind of is.
I want to break the 20k mark in 3DMark 01, but I haven't managed to beat 19399 yet with what I think is pretty much my maximum overclocks 🙁
I'd love to hit 20k on my current setup, but I don't think I'm going to manage it, and I havent tried for a while now. I'm not gonna spend a fortune to get it up.

Yes, it's just as important as any other benchmark tool to indicate system performance and track the effects of any parameter or hardware change. Does it do anything for my lovelife or self esteem?-----no.

Agreed.

Well, it's a benchmark. Notthing more, nothing less. It is nice to be able to run the free version at the default settings and see how your rig stacks up against others. without having to run a slew of tests. Granted, 3DMark isn't authoritative, but it is indicative of how well your rig will play DirectX games. Low score, low frames...

I really like using them for quick stress testing of a system. Plus it is nice to see my tweakings and investmenst rewarded 🙂 I know that if it can run the 3dMark suite pretty well, then I am set for my games. It is fun to get higher scores than other people though, and look at the results to see if your video card is performing as advertised, etc...

And my woman loves me for my 1337 3DMark skilz, boyz! 😛

I stopped benchmarking in 2001, because I could never approach the 'expected' bench numbers, but I was getting fine performance in games. I haven't had 3dmark installed in YEARS.
