I have the upgrade bug again. My rig runs fine right now....but I keep finding stuff that I NEED to have it work the way I want.

Being a nerd is expensive work....

I've started using my laptop more than my desktop. My desktop is now more of a HTPC, permanently attached to my living room television.

Of course not. My current system is ridiculously overkill for my needs, but it's not about the power...it's the same as having a muscle car - no one *needs* a 350-hp car for merging on the highway, but that doesn't make it any less fun to have :D

Right, you need a 600hp M5 for proper merging.

I generally just upgrade as needed.

my last major upgrade was when WotLK came out and I was having framerate issues in certain instances, so I upgraded my video card and CPU.

I'm thinking about building a new rig more or less for the hell of it at some point in the fall... I kinda want to switch to intel and a solid state hard drive and maybe get a cooler looking case.

I finally gave up. I'm not sure what happened, but I lost my desire to work on my pc. I wanted to just work with it. So I stopped upgrading.

My last PC build was a AMD64 x2 4400 with 4 gigs of ram and a 8800GT.

Still going strong with ubuntu.

I switched to using portable computers fulltime. First with dell notebooks, and finally settling on mac (Mostly because of the state of wireless N on linux). Now I'm on a 3-4 year upgrade cycle of just buying the latest notebook. I moved my gaming off to the console arena.

yeah, not nearly enough for merging

i used the same computer from summer 2003 until 2 months ago (almost 6 years), but that was just due to lack of funds.

The 2010 M5 is expected to hit 580hp. Further, who says that all cars must be stock?

If I said that you needed a 900hp Supra, would you reply, "You moron, the Supra only has 316hp?"

I haven't upgraded anything in my pc for ages. In fact, I don't really use it anymore.

I just use my laptop.

I upgraded my main rig a few months ago. Replaced the MB, CPU, memory and video card for around $300. Now I'm running a Core-2-Duo, 2GB memory, a mid-range PCI-e ATI video card instead of the old single core Athlon XP (socket 754), 1GB RAM, ATI 9800 video card.

Never finished. I think it's much more economical to "always be in the market for a new part," because then you can just wait until you see a hot deal and pounce on it. But when you are in "I need an entire PC RIGHT NOW" mode, then you have to buy at whatever price the market is currently at.

last year i upgraded from a dual core opteron (2.0Ghz @ 2.5Ghz) to an intel core 2 quad 2.66Ghz. overclocked it to 3.8Ghz and havent looked back. not to mention, i upped the ram to 2x2GB and gpu to a geforce GTX 260 216. i definitely wont need to upgrade for years now.

It is never "finished" - but I get close to it for ATOT standards. I don't have anything I want to do with my computer that's high priority. It's recently had a cpu, mobo, video card, ram, hard drive, input devices update.

I -want- new speakers, new monitor, another big hard drive, and maybe a blu-ray player - but none of that is very high priority.

They should be now (I just bought three new Macs), but I upgraded the RAM on the Mini just last week and am thinking about the RAM and HD on one of the MacBooks. If it wasn't for my NAS, I probably would have upgraded the HD on the Mini, too.

When I use to build my own PCs, they were never done.
