Is your Enermax PSU running *hot* ?

My Enermax 465-VE (FC) gets extremely hot on the side, and it seems hotter than the CPU's heatsink. The PSU heats up the case, driving up the temperature of the CPU as well.

I don't have more drives or other hardware than anyone else, so it's not because of my system's setup..

Is anyone else experiencing hot PSU problems?

** Edit: 2 cooling fans (exhaust) on the back, 1 cooling fan (intake) on the front **

OuterSquare,

What do you have now, and what did you have previously?

the "whisper" 431 watt guy. Used to have some POS "300 Watt" PS.

Huge difference in heat. The outside of my case use to be cool to the touch. Now it's actually uncomfortable to touch the outside of my case. I had to take the cover off my case :(

Enermax PS are known to run hot. I have the 431watter and before that, I had the 330w. Both run hot.

Mine runs pretty hot too, but the fans seems to do a good job.

Mine smelled horrible for over a week when I got it too!

LOL! Mine had that same problem.

My Whipser 431 Watter also runs fairly warm. I wouldn't go so far as to say hot however. Maybe something is wrong with your temperature sensor where the second fan isn't being activated.

Be sure the three pin fan lead is plugged in somewhere, otherwise the rear fan won't run at all. Tape the sensor to something that gets warm, like the top of a HDD, or short the sensor leads together(not to anything else) to make the rear fan run at max rpm.

What case and fans are you using?

The fan lead is for the REAR fan then, not the bottom fan?

I wondered why the bottom fan worked whether I plugged the lead in or not!

The smell is Enermax's "brand new smell". It goes away after a few days:)

i have an antec 350w. it gets the top of the case pretty hot also. i'm thinking of drilling a blow hole up top or getting a bay freezer to get rid of that hot air.

Yes. But it still worried me a lot at the time! Then I smelt the box it came in and that smelt very similiar so I just put it down to being new.
