We just decorated ours tonight. I Love the Christmas season.

I was wondering, how do you pick your tree and how early? Does it last till Christmas is over?

Our trees are dried out and ready to go the day after Christmas. My wife makes me remove it as soon as the presents have been removed Dec 26th. I know others have different traditions at this time.

How about posting here what yours are?:)

We put up the fake tree last week. It usually stays there until school stars again. Too lazy to clean it up. ;)

We just put ours up tonight. :) This year we have a fake one.
Normally we get a real tree and put it up the day after Thanksgiving and take it down Jan 1.

Have a Merry CHRISTmas!!! :)

8 foot Frasier Fir, up the day after Thanksgiving!

Youngest keeps 'redecorating' it tho'... and we have decided to wait until the last minute to put the Lionel trains out.

Mr Isla put an electronic tree alarm so that when the water runs low, it alerts us.

I sleep in the room closest to the tree, so when the alarm goes off at 4:30AM, guess who hears it? And it seems to ONLY go off between 4-5AM... it's happened 3 times already!

It is a beauty, tho'. What I love about it is that I really get to use my imagination and whimsy. I buy one new ornament each year, and this year it is Scooby and Shaggy in the Mystery Mobile.

:D

No, and I am a bit annoyed with my Mr who insists it's too early to get a tree:frown:
He grew up with his mother insisting that decorations and xmas trees were not to be put up until the 24th---the most insane and cruel thing I've heard a parent do in a long, long time.
I'm gonna push to get it tomorrow. I just can't stand it any longer.

By the way, Isla, your tree sounds gorgeous:)

Thanks Elita.

You tell the Mr that some traditions should change when you have your own family!

Tell him it would mean a lot to you to start your own tradition... maybe a compromise, like the week before Christmas (or earlier ;) )

Happy tree hunting!

I put mine up the day after Thanksgiving too! :) It's all burgundy-colored ornaments in different sizes, clear lights, burgundy and gold ribbon running vertically down in waves, and has one huge burgundy and gold bow on top.

NEXT year I think I'm gonna use dead computer parts, AOL CDs, and ribbon cables to decorate it. :p

Good luck and I wish you well in your endeavor to change that tradition.

Wafting through our house now is the odor of a cinnamon candle. I love it.;)

Isla, We have a train circling the little town that resides at the foot of my three legged wood burning stove. We have been collecting pieces for 30 years. Perhaps thats what makes it so special, and now that my children are grown, the twinkle in the eyes of my young grandsons makes all that effort of collecting and protecting all worth while.

Feliz Navidad

Isla, I agree.

He tends to forget the fundamental problem with his theory of "waiting for the right time" to do things.
At least where we live, the xmas craze gets more and more insane with every passing day. And the longer you wait, the harder it will be to get ANYTHING.
I'm gettin' me a tree this weekend!:D

Slowly killing organic life by ripping it from the soil and slowly starving it of water, all the while demeaning it by placing scalding lights and embarassing tinsel on its limbs is not my idea of celebrating Christmas. :p

Ah, that sounds wonderful, and exactly what we hope to achieve in the future.

My dad and the Mr are going to the train shop this weekend. We just started 2 years ago, but already it is a wonderful tradition.

I look forward to the day my grandchildren come to see the trains!

Unexpug8d, that sounds gorgeous! You will have to post pics if you can. :)

starlitt, the Mr is really into the tree... :D

Elita, You go, girl!

Did I miss anybody?

Have a wonderful weekend!

BTW... Be glad you can wear sweaters and things. I wore shorts and a short sleeved T all day.... hard to feel Christmas-y. :(
