Do you keep your case open or closed and why?

Closed. It's way too f*cking loud with it open. Even with it closed it's still pretty loud. My next project is making it quiet. Keeping it closed keeps out dust as well.

I have to leave it open for now. I just got a used Celeron2@800 system (from Anandtech FS/FT) and it has a poor designed Inwin mid-tower. The PSU fan blows air on top of the CPU (whose fan blows air back at the PSU fan) and another fan blows in air from the front. No exhaust fans...so I leave the cover off.

With the cover on, I was getting idle CPU temps of 51C. I added a software CPU cooler and the idle CPU temp dropped to 42C. I removed the cover and the idle CPU temp is now 36C. Room temperature is 28C (stupid Alison is bring all this warmth to town), so I can deal with a 8C delta.

Always ran mine closed, just a neater appearance, and about the same noise level.

Usually open during the day when noise isn't relaly a problem. Closed at night when I sleep. But now it's closed most of the time cuz I have ice packs in there to cool the air. This keeps the cooler air inside. Bottom intake fan blows across the icepacks and voila! Cooler internal air.

I usually leave it closed, but with summer here and my ac unit in the house dead I have to keep the case open to keep the temps down. 🙁

1) It runs cooler
2) It helps keep the Delta fan quiet

Closed, my cat had a little play in there and broke one of the CPU fan wires, had to add a few extra fans because it ran way hotter with the cover on.
