Is your Athlon 1700+ actually a 2700+?

I thought about whether to post it in Hot Deals, add it to an existing thread, or somewhere else, but it was moved here for what I realize is obvious reasons:

I finally decided to start it here, so people can check first if that the AMD Athlon CPU they are buying might just be a better deal than they are paying for! Granted, most will buy their CPU's on-line BUT they might be able to call and verify what the individual processor they are purchasing is really rated.

Here is the lowdown. Last night, I discovered two articles (and sites) that "excellently" explained how to interpret your Athlon. One has the explanation and the other contains a script program that allows you to type in your CPU's ID numbers and it will then explain what it means, when it was made, what it was originally made as, and the like. I bought a 1700+ from NewEgg awhile back and now learn that is a rebadged 2700+!!!! Not too shabby for $50 and no wonder it runs so cool and smooth!!!

Here are the links:

Athlon XP/Thunderbird Processor Identifier

This makes a good deal so much sweeter and I hope it helps others.

Your right. And now its posted in the appropriate Forum. I didn't even think about it till after I read your comment. I still hope it helps someone and others find it interesting. It sure made my night when I discovered what my CPU had originally been made as!

Sometimes the excitement of finally having ONE thing go right in my life just carries me away....

Mine says downgraded from 2600+. Is that good? Or was it rejected for 2600+ for technical reasons? It's good right?:D

That is the true test. If it runs @ 2700+ speeds, it is. If not, well its not.

Well, according to the "7th+8th" digit info, which supposedly tells you what the "downgraded from" is, my 1700A is "downgraded" from a <U>55!</U> (The numbers on the chip have been cerified by 2 other people, so I didn't read them wrong...)

You tell me?

That thing said my 1700+ was a 2700+, but I can't run my CPU at that speed no matter what. The best I can do is 2000mhz stable at 1.75 volts.

yes, I don't trust this downgraded stuff. My 1700+ is said to be a 2700+... well, it only runs at that speed with 1.8V.

I don't believe the whole downgraded thing. My 1700 DLT3C 0308 says it's downgraded from a 2500. A 2500 huh? When is the last time you saw a 2500 tbred? And I have it running at 2400Mhz. More like a 3200+ PR rating. Also, that script said my chip was a tbred A.
