Is your Asus 4850HD card's fan loud at 70% speed?

Just wondering if there's any problem with my Asus 4850 card's fan. It's running nearly silent up to 55% speed, but then gets louder, and by 70%, it's pretty loud, and then it's really loud at 100%.

Just wondering if this is true across the board for Asus, or maybe 4850 cards in general.

I hear virtually no sound at 33%. In fact, the sound does not appreciably pick up until 55% or so, then it gets louder and louder as you go. I use watercooling so there's not much sound to begin with, so the sound above 70% starts to get annoying. 100% is definitely like a jet. At first I thought I had a bad fan or something, since I've never had a PC component that made that much sound.

I thought that was simple aerodynamics? The faster something starts moving the more friction it feels against the air and in the case of fans with blades of that length, the noise goes up considerably too. They design the fans so that anything below gaming breakpoint (I'd say 60-70%) is relatively quiet. Hence the reason aftermarket coolers are typically quieter, since they have larger blades and spin at lower speeds but move the same amount of air. Might also have noise contribution from the motor diriving the fans, not sure on that though.
