I recently got ahold of it and am curious if anyone else knows if it is really RC1?

Has anyone tried it?

you mean 2495 and no it's not. 2494 is the official beta build, 2495 is a leaked build.

RC1 is due on June 25th or after...it will probably be delayed again though til like july 4th...it is M$!

I used to have a whole spare DRIVE to just play with beta builds, but that drive is now part of my car mp3 player! ;)

NEO 35 MP3 hard drive based player.

It's hooked up via a specially made cable to the CD Changer control on my Audi A4 (you could also plug it into any AUX input on a deck).

Control is handled via a wired remote control that runs up to the cockpit.

The NEO plugs into a host computer with a special bay and then appears as a regular IDE device. I just moved all my songs over to it. Restart the NEO and it builds an index of all your tracks. You can then play songs, play directories, playlists, etc.

It's sweet.

go to www.funmp3players.com for more info... there's a new version out called the NEO Car Jukebox that looks pretty nice.

you can also get the original NEO35 off of Ebay pretty cheap.

I think they're close enough that they won't have to delay it that much, although I've
seen rumors that the release window might be between the 25th and 29th now.

Microsoft really set themselves up this time by stating the Retail date as Oct 25.
That means they really can't afford to slip up more than a couple of days from here
on in, and its better for them to keep that slack in the process as long as possible.

It would actually be better for them to release RC1 soon, and generate a lot of
feedback that can be applied to RC2, than to force them to keep a tight deadline
on the rest of the release track.

On site I saw recently was speculating that MS would target build 2500 as RC1;
I can't say that is what will happen, but it rings true based on the way they've
rolled out previous betas. A nice round number makes for a good milestone, and
looks good on internal memoes.

No its not RC1, and yes I have it but I haven't installed it yet.

[Excerpt: Microsoft tells me it is hoping to complete Windows XP Release Candidate 1 (RC1) by next Friday but that the July 4th holiday is the absolute drop-dead date. Testers received build 2494 Thursday morning, marking what will probably be the final interim build before RC1. The RC1 release, of course, will be feature complete: From here on out, it's all bug fixing, performance testing, and fine-tuning.]

RC1 = Release Canidate 1

It's the point were you stop adding features and begin fixing any major bugs that people report.

All I know is when I pay 10 bucks for an OS, it better work dammit!

Not counting various games/hardware that MS has its paws into, this is the first time MS has gotten my money for an OS :D

I guess I DID get win95 with a pc a while ago. But I didn't feel like paying for Win95 service pack whatever (Windows ME) so I think I may finally buy this one.

Where'd you get this excerpt from, RichieZZZZ? Buzz on the MicrosoftXP Newsgroups is that it may be pushed back until the 4th, too. I just want to try the thing!

<< Why is it that the ReadMe file on my WindowsXP 2495 CD says RC1? >>

Uh, the same reason 2499 says it? The documentation always gets updated a few builds before they decide what will be the official RC.
