Is XP being pulled from store shelves?

This morning they said that WinXP is being pulled from store shelves to force people to move to Vista.

Is this true?

That's not exactly true. They're not pulling it from the shelves, but once the copies are sold they won't be restocked.

i'll buy one more copy of XP32. that plus an un-used copy of XP64
should see me through for another 5 years.

the Egg still has stock !

This just in, retailers are also getting rid of yesterday's newspapers, last year's car models, and day-old bread. Hurry before they're all gone!

How would that force anyone to "move" to Vista? Moving implies they are currently using another OS. If they already have a non-Vista OS, they don't need to go buy XP.

This whole thing has been vastly overblown.

Overblown, probably yes. But it's probably also the "people" taking their frustrations out on Microsoft more than just a bad operating system.

OK, I've got three workstations running Win98SE that are not connected to the net. I like them because I have many old programs I use and I enjoy themes and other things to tweak the interface.

I have one dead XP machine. It is a 3.1 gighz Pentium Laptop from the sleazy Gateway company. It is silent, non-energy consuming brick. It went in for repairs to Gateway 3 times in one year for the same problem, no display. When I tried to have them fix it again they said it was month 14 and I no longer had a guarantee. I wrote their CEO certified mail and he agreed. So I have a Gateway brick that does nothing.

I'll have to look for about 3 copies of XP OEMs, because I'll stay with the OS for a long time. Since none of my apps would benefit from 64 bit processing, I think I'll look for WINXP, 32 bit Pro. It appears as though they (OEM) will disappear in January, if my reading was correct.

Get over it, technology moves on and Vista is a perfectly usable OS. If you need to use the old programs keep your 98SE machines and see if you can salvage that hard drive out of the gateway.

I'm sure you'll be able to buy XP for a long time just as you can Win2k and the others on back to Win95 - even 3.x and MS-DOS are still available for those who want or need them. The market decides, NOT Microstuff.
