Is XM Radio worth buying?

Been looking at Kenwoods Sirius satellite radio and wonder if its something worth investing in. Kind of expensive for all the hardware Head-unit, XM Tuner, Antenna, Service. Does anyone here have XM Radio? Can you tell me if its worth buying? Also if I subscribe to the service can I use XM in the car and at home as well with only the one service?

Its worth buying if you spend all day in your car, like a salesman or something.I feel it would be a waste for commuters at their present pricing structure.

I think they are in financial trouble from what I've heard and why would you want to pay for radio.

Long trips I use cd's or just scan for radio station.

sirius != xm

both companies will probably die in the next 5 years

though i'm getting really bored of local radio and might get this stuff if i can figure out how to make it work with my head unit

they need to partner with the big rig builders, peterbilt, etc.... factory installs, seems to be the most logical customer base to start with, guys traveling countrywide daily would probably enjoy being able to listen to one station and not have to search every hour for a new one.

I'd get it if Opie and Anthony show come back on it. Screw local radio, if O&A are on XM, I'm in 😀

Plus no commercials 😉

It's $10/month for atleast 100 channels of better-than-CD quality digital sound that you can get no matter where you go in the states. For $10/month? Of course it's worth it!

I hear they haven't got enough subscribers..user base too small.

XM is losing money, but GM is pouring money into it hoping that in a few years that the user base will grow big enough. We need 1.2 million subscribers to start profiting, but we don't have it yet. Oh well. It still rocks though.

Useless Trivia:

The two satellites (one over west coast, one over east coast) are named "Rock" and "Roll"

😀

O&A were unfunny crap. Thank god they are gone.

It is much better than local radio...if you do road trips it is a lifesaver...the comedy channel is awesome (uncensored, too)

Sirius Satellite is currently being looked into by the SEC for some illegal actions. From what I've heard they intentionally held onto the product to drive up their stock prices and to get more money from their investors. I was told this by serveral people in the Car Audio Industury. They seem to think they'll be bottom up in the next few years.

I wouldn't get one anyway, what a waste of money.

heck yeah

i've had XM for over 6 months now. i love it. i have the pioneer car unit. mounted the controller all stealth in my front ashtray and everything.

don't know how i lived without it

only crappy thing is that you can't take it into the house. i guess you can buy the sony model though, which lets you unplug it and take it inside....but if you get a separate house-only receiver, you have to pay TWO subscription fees..which sucks

I don't think so, but I work at one of those local radio stations that everyone hates so much, so I'm biased...

😛😉

I've been an XM subscriber for a year now, and I highly recommend it!!!

The price structure is reasonable and the hardware is now affordable.

I can't imagine satellite radio going away, but I can see the consolidate the 2 companies into one sometime in the future.

seems like everyone who thinks its not worth it hasn't tried it and everyone who has tried it says its rocks. Anyone try and it and turn out to be disappointed?

Once you have it you'll never go back 🙂
