I remember reading about WTX cases being the future successors of ATX. This was like 2 years ago...did the motherboard manufacturers decide not to support it or what?

you wont have any future successors to ATX when pricewatch pulls up 4 matches on WTX and the only bare case costs $250

wtx is NOT the successor of ATX.

atx is for desktops.

wtx is for workstations and servers.

WTX is a workstation form factor extension of ATX.
It's not really a sucessor...
It's like a uATX is to ATX as ATX is to WTX.
ATX boards will fit in WTX cases just fine, but the WTX offers more room for the board.

I think we'll see more WTX cases as dual cpu systems becomes more common. Dual motherboards are larger and will not fit in some ATX case. The nice thing about WTX is the cpu will cool much better than ATX since the PCI slots and peripherials are above and away from the cpu.

ah okay...its for servers then.

Anyone out there got a WTX case? If so, how well does it work for cooling?

Well I have an Addtronics WTX case for my system and all I can say is that it is wonderful. It is a Server case and the mobo is placed the other way round. It has 9 fans in it and allowed me to push my Athlon 1.4 to 1575Mhz at STOCK Voltage 143FSB with no voltage tweaks. The CPU runs at a MAX 48 Celcius at full load (Prime torture test) under Win200 with a GlobalWin WBK38.

I have 4 HDs in there in RAID (60GXps 40GB) and they produce heat as well plus a GF3 non overclocked but it would go 235/550 (Asus 8200 Deluxe).

I use an Enermax 550W PSU BTW ($340 for it Where I live)

The Case cost me $300 as well. (There is still room for expansion in there). It comes with wheels, washable filters, locks, and sevral nice extras such as server mobo power connectors.

Do I recommend it - DEFINITELY!!!! The best case I ever had. But I can;t afford to lose my data casue I'll lose my job. So 2 of the HDs are RAID 1 and two RAID 0.

I stress the systme quite hard I have to say and it still remains quite cool. Although the intake fan is a monster (you can stay 3 feet away from it and still feel the air coming from it.
