Gonna dig this up a little... I was reading abit about witchcraft for curiosity today and found 2 pages on a site that are very informative. Judging from the responses in this thread most people have a huge misconception about witchcraft(Wicca). If your at all curious heres two pages worth reading.

As for the OP's original question thats like asking does god exist and how do you know he does.

"Witchcraft" is an old Propoganda soundbite. The best way to motivate your people to fight someone else is to convince them the Others are evil. The best way to conquer a competing Society is to convince that Society that it's evil. Attaching "witchcraft" to Others was a key part in European Colonialism, but it has been used many times throughout History by many a Society.

I voted Yes only b/c I went to see Star Trek: Generations back in the day with a girl from my uni residence - she was a practicing 'Wiccan" or whatever you want to call it. She put a spell on herself though - one that gave her a really fat ass. AHHAH

The thing is that "Wicca" as it stands today is a pretty recent creation. Many of it's traditions are ancient, but it has been newly constructed and is not necessaily an accurate representation of what any ancient people actually believed. There are also many different sects, based on variations on their beliefs. I think they call these sects "paths".

From what I have read Wicca has a pretty weak set of core beliefs. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, just an observation. As far as I can tell they all believe that nature is sacred. They also believe in a goddess and god, but they belive differently about the nature of them. Some hold that they are actual spirit persons. Some hold that they are parts of the same person. Some hold that they are just aspects of the universe, and they are only god and goddess in a metaphoric sense.

Some Wiccans practice "magick", and some don't. Some join covens, some don't. As far as I can tell Wiccans don't believe that Wicca is necessarily the only valid spiritual path.

I guess you can be an atheist environmentalist non-magic worker and still be considered a Wiccan at least part of the time?😕

There are also other religions, neo-Pagan and otherwise, that practice "magic" or "witchcraft". You could even call the miracles performed by the Hebrew prophets, or even Jesus himself "witchcraft".

I voted yes. Witchcraft is undeniably real in that there are very many people all over the world who belong to many different religions and belive in witchcraft and claim to practice it. This belief is very real to them, to the point of influencing choices and altering their lives. This in turn has a very real affect on the societies they live in and the history of the whole world.
