For Playing And hosting games, + Teamspeak server and windows based seti @ home clones, Whats faster in performance, Windows xp media center or xp pro.
From my standpoint xp media center doesnt run alot services like windows xp does, making it superior.
Ive tried canceling out services like blackviper said , even the safe ones But in my experience to many services really on it, and if you dont have em pulling out a usb device without universal plug and play, or restoring without a logical disk master makes your computer go by by, MOST of those services are there for a reason, thus making windows xp pro slowwwwwwww.

I A side Note Ive tried XPlite and theres still no cure xp's slowness I base xp's slowness on windows 98 comparison.Im kinda hoping this new media center is like windows 98, Very fast In drive and ram access

Dude,

1. Windows XP Pro SP3, Does NOT exist, It may some day but not yet !!!

2. Windows media center 32 bit edition ITA version. This is pretty much Windows XP with a lot of interface and media add ons.

3. Windows xp 64 bit edition 3... ? No such animal... They do have Windows XP 64 bit though no such thing as " Edition 3 ".

I searched at newegg and the only thing they have is this:

Microsoft Office XP Professional with SP3 and MS Publisher - OEM
Model #: M04-00415
Item #: N82E16837116177

and

Microsoft Windows XP Professional X64 Edition 1 package - OEM
Packaging: OEM
Version: Professional
Model #: ZAT-00007
Item #: N82E16837102034

This is the only way to get 64 bit addition, other than through the MS upgrade by trading in a valid Windows XP Pro License, or buying a new PC with it preinstalled.

Which you must have read both of these incorrectly.

You've got some strange ideas for sure. Disabling some services may help slightly in some instances, but people like Blackviper prey on others' paranoia and desire to tweak everything to get them to use these mostly useless service "tweaks." I would have thought that XP Media Center will have more features (ahem... bloat) than regular XP, but you won't notice the difference in actual use.

Either way, anyone who compares XP to 98 is clueless... There is no comparison. Win98 is fine for old DOS games that won't run even with XP's compatibility mode, but for any modern task, 98 is just not up to par in many more areas aside from performance.

Edit: to conclude, if you have a system that is even slightly up to date, and XP is as much slower than 98 as you claim, then you've managed to screw up the XP install somehow. Again, XP should not be slower, while offering you many more useful features (security, reliability, multitasking performance, and much more).

I played around with linux, I wants its performance, but its being not attached to a gui, Windows 98 is the closet thing. I just saw the windows media center startmenu at a store and was glad the desktop was gone

Go learn some operating system pedigree (in other words, Linux and Windows 98 do not belong in the same sentence, let alone the same freakin paragraph) before you say any more. You're just embarrassing yourself, and Google will do great wonders to prevent that if you use it wisely.
