Is Windows x64 worth it?

In a few days i'll start building my new PC, this will include a AMD Athlon 64 3400. I have a license for Windows XP pro, but as i understand it, i am also able to download windows 64bit edition and use that instead if i wanted?

What do people suggest...will i notice the performance increase (if any) or is it safer to stick with XP? I generally use my PC for internet, and occasional gaming.

I'd DL the beta for XP 64 and see how you like it. Just remember that it is a beta and driver support is somewhat limited, especially if you run an ATI video card.
