Is Windows Media Player 7.0 nearly as good (in quality) as lame for encoding music files?

i never tried this, but i'm assuming it probably won't...

I wouldn't suggest you use WMP7.0 anyway, that piece of software is horrible, just horrible

i say winamp/sonique to play the mp3s
and the old media player to play movies and such

to encode mp3's just use lame or radium codec and a cd-ripper such as audiograbber

yea but WMA 7 is so damn convient, I use it for everything else including music and movies, I figure I might as well use it for ripping CD's too!

... Not to mention that sound quality is leaps and bounds ahead of winamp

so would it be worth it to rip my CD's w/ WMA7? The new U2 is so damn good, I can't just have it on CD anymore!
