i'm wanting to use windows internet connection sharing (my pc is vista), because cords laying across the floor and down a hallway isn't possible atm (don't ask). anyway, i have one of those usb wireless adapters that let's me get online no problems, and i have the onboard ethernet plug open, and i want to plug in another pc to it and share the connection.

when setting it up, everything seems to work fine at first, but a few seconds later my wireless connection goes from "access to local and internet" to "access to local only," effectively stopping the sharing of the internet.

the modem itself is a 2wire 1000hw. i read on one of microsoft's support pages, and it says "Do not use ICS on a network with domain controllers, DNS servers, gateways, or DHCP servers. And don't use ICS on systems configured for static IP addresses."

could this be the problem? i tried setting it up via automatically detecting settings and also did it by manually entering the IP information. neither seemed to work.

any help is appreciated. thanks:)

You have a Router, the 2Wire device is a Modem/Router.

If the computer with the two NICs is running WinXP pro you can use the WinXP pro Bridging capacity to Bridge the additional computer, Wire or, Wireless, does not matter.

This page is not exactly your topology but the principle can easily inferred.

it's running vista, as noted in the OP. i tried bridging the connections, but that didn't seem to work either.

It's been awhile since I've used that model, but I'm 90% sure I've gotten ICS to work with it.
