Is windows 7 more secure for internet?

I have noticed that XP is becoming less secure even though microsoft still is supporting it somewhat. Is windows 7 more secure in terms of getting malware, spyware, viruses, etc....

I will explain better. Lets say you want song lyics and you click a bad link, instantly you will get some kind of a tool bar, popup, fake security error, you know the drill. With apples OSX this does not occur.

I browse safely and know what sites to be carful with but people like my dad ruins his computer practically once a month. This is with all updates and avg. I was wondering if 7 would be the solution to people who are not so savy.

Security is better with 7. And, much of the type of security you exemplify is user controllable.

Windows 7 is definitely more secure than other releases of Windows.

Just guide your dad with the basic rules (tell him about the UAC prompts, warn him from nasty sites etc...)

Nothing can solve the worst problem - the user. Educate him as best you can and clean up the mess when he creates it. A clean operating system image that you can restore from can make your life a LOT easier when the poop eventually hits the fan.

Clean system image. That's what I do for my folks.
Infection? Malware? Viagra pop-ups? Drop in the TrueImage boot CD, 15 minutes and BAM! Clean computer 🙂

Here's some more practical steps that would help regardless of whether it's WinXP, Vista, or Win7: http://www.mechbgon.com/security Like the guys said, the computer's user either needs education, or else they need their Admin rights revoked, because you can't expect a secure computer when the Admin is sabotaging it himself. And that fundamentally holds true for any OS.
