Is Win2k just as good as WinXP games wise?

For the most part, all the current games will run just fine in W2K as they do in XP. Several older games like Need for Speed 3 don't work at all in either OS, while some older games will work only in XP.

As far as performance goes, I'd say they are pretty much even. WinXP may have a 1-2% increase in speed in a few games, but I doubt it would be noticeable.

Does Win2000 have error reporting like XP does or does it give a BSOD like older OS's does?

I had Win 2000 Server from the day of it's release until about 3 months ago, and there was never a game I ran into that didn't play perfectly.

Ive never really had experience with XP so I wouldnt be able to tell you that...however, the only time I got BSODs when playing games on Win2K was when my mobo started getting fried because of faulty caps

Windows XP is faster and more compatible for gaming than Windows 2000 is.

I think it just crashes out and closes. If you want to stop the error reporting crap in XP, go into System Properties, Advanced, Error Reporting, and put a dot next to "Disable error reporting". That will cause the app to just close, and won't give you the "Program has crashed, would you like to send error report blah blah shut the hell up" :)

Actually that isn't true. I have the original Rainbow Six from way back in the day and finally just bought the book off which the game is based. I decided I wanted to play the original again, so I just loaded it up on my XP Home machine and it works just fine. Sound and graphics and everything else work great.

Although I do prefer Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield. Technology sure has advanced...

I have finally got Carmageddon 2 working on Windows XP :D:D:D It wouldn't work on 2k either, so i haven't played this in like 3 years, I was getting such bad withdrawal symptoms!

Works a treat :D

For everything else i've wanted to play, not been any problems with XP :)

There may be! There's no harm (other than 20 mins of your time) in installing it and trying it! ;):)

Would be good to know if it does work in 2k too!

Windows XP will be a little better as far as compatability, but either shjould be fine for most newer games. Older games have a better chance of running on Windows XP, but often you have to do a little extra work to make them work. Windows XP can emulate other OSes, so that often times a Windows 95 "only" game will run on XP if you set up XP to install the game in "Windows 95 compatability mode" There should be a "Compatability Wizard" or something like it in the start manu somewhere (I am at a Win2K machine at work and don't remember at the moment where and what exactly it is called).

Two best gaming OS options:

Windows XP Pro
Windows 2000 Pro

I chose Win 2000 Pro. Less bloat, less features I don't need/don't want to deal with, haven't heard of lots of problems like I have with XP, no getting used to anything strange.

Works fine for all my gaming... new games mostly. Should work with older games maybe just not REALLY old (PC) games.

Well I am all about the newer games. So Win2000 doesnt have the error reporting like XP does? Could someone thats using Win2000 tell me what it does exactly when a app crashes?
