is wifi half block away house to house easily done?

Any inexpensive way to setup wifi for house to house share about a block away?

1 external wifi adapter on usb cable 20' to extend outside the receiver house.
1 external range booster outside the sending house toward the receiver house.
maybe its not even possible with out directional antenna or expensive parts?
budget between 2-3 hundred as it will all be a gift from me ;( Not my internet i cant share im to greedy.
