Is 'White Gold' really, actual gold?

thatsright

Just saw the Patriots Super Bowl 38 Championship rings and it's made out of White gold. This actually reminds me of when I went to high school, and it came time to buy class rings. The ring company was selling a White Gold ring, that looked suspiciously like Silver, or some other plated metal. And it was priced about the same as a 18k Gold class ring.

Is White gold, really gold? Or is it a composition of 99.0% Zinc, and 1% gold or something like this?

It has as much gold as its yellow gold counterpart, as much 'real' gold in 14k white as 14k yellow, 18k white as 18k yellow, etc. It's the alloy that makes it the white/silver color, I don't think you'll find white gold higher than 18k.

I found this chart with the different alloys for the white, pink/rose and yellow gold color.

Yeah, 24k gold can only be yellow.

I think white gold is an another name for platinum.

No! Totally different metals. They are only the same silvery color (soft of).

Woah... I always thought they were the same. Other than that, in D&D, 5 Gold Pieces = 1 Platinum Piece. That's the extent of my knowledge of platinum.

Platinum is actually more than 5X in price as gold, My wife didn't like the yellow gold color, so when I was getting the wedding bands made, it was 150 for 2 white gold band VS. 1000's for platinum rings.

Platinum rings doesn't scratch easy when compare to gold.

don't you have to get white gold re-doped every once in a while? It's not as stable as yellow gold.

Platinum is roughly twice as expensive as gold.

Gold comes in various alloys when it comes to jewelry because gold is an extremely soft metal. There is rose gold(gold + copper), white gold(gold + Palladium), theres also green gold(gold + silver). Those are the most common, but there are others. White gold used to be made with gold and nickle, but nickle causes reactions in alot of people, so most jewelers have stopped using nickle period.
