It may be compatible, but it certainly won't support any functions. Voodoo 3 is OLD.

And if your software requires a DX9 sound card you're in trouble, because you're asking about a video card :p. j/k

Well, an old card can certainly be DX9 compatible. I think the VooDoo3 may be too old, though.

Compatible=will work okay with DX9 in software and cause no problems, a GF3 ti200 for example.

Compliant=meets DX9 hardware standards, a 9800pro card for example.

Another way to think of it is that a compatible card does DX9 functions in software, a compliant card does DX9 functions in hardware.

U mean video card. And no, its hard to get the voodoo series to run anything above dx7. Some third party drivers get it to run dx7 code fine, but anything above that is rare. Voodoo cards are initially made to run up to dx6 and 3dfx collapsed before they wrote an official driver to even make it work with dx7. Also, if your program wont even let u install the software, updating the driver to an unofficial driver wont help u at all even if it would work. The detection feature within the program wont recognise the card as being dx9 compatable still.

summary: buy a nice cheap ANYTHING made by nv or ati within the last 5 yrs. (GF2mx cards run ~$25 if you are cheap)

AFAIK(and I own one ;) ), the latest beta voodoo3 drivers ever released supported about half the feature set of dx8.1 . dx8 was somewhat supported, but still has problems in some games. dx9, nope...for what it's worth, it does complete the dx9 tests in dxdiag.

Something doesnt make sense ...

My Voodoo 5 5500 was only good up to W98.
I had to buy a new card when I upgraded OS.

Your installing a Dx9 software on a non compliant DX9 OS also ...?

hmmmm ... I'm confused

I'd make sure your not going to screw up your OS.
(exuse me if I'm wrong ... just making sure you dont make a mistake here )

It's certainly not compliant but it might be compatible if some the newer drivers have been updated enough.
