Is Vodka good for cleaning CPUs?

I use rubbing alcohol for cleaning thermal paste. Would vodka work? I'm curious because I used it to clean the unused-for-months-and-encrused-with-carbon George Foreman Grill.

No.

The non alcohol portion of it contains all kinds of stuff like sugar you don't want around your computer.

True, drinking alcohol is made with starches, and sugars.

you want to use Isoprpoyl alcohol,
if you want to;you Can use "dry gas" Isopropyl, but do not use Methanol type dry gas!
that stuff is poisonous!

Isopropyl alcohol will mess you up good. You'll end up with "gastro-intestinal problems." Just read the label. My grandfather's friends tried it in World War II. Just don't do it.

Ethyl alchol that you can get in the drug isle has acetone (nail polish remover) in it. I wouldn't suggest that either.

This is what you would call "denatured" alcohol. It's unfit to drink, and that's why you can buy it without getting carded.

If you stick a bottle of vodka in the freezer, i heard that if you take out the ice that forms, you have pure alcohol. is this true?

I guess I'll answer: no! Vodka contains additives such as oils and sacharine and it will leave a filmy residue that may fry your CPU. Now, I have used cologne in the past (shouldn't do that either), but it has to be with high alchohol content, 60% or better.

You couldn't get it cold enough to freeze.

You couldn't get it cold enough to freeze.

And even if you could, why not just drink everclear? Or is 95% not good enough? ;)

No.

Alcohol is soluble in water (or would that be the other way around?), so by adding alcohol to water you basically lower the freezing point.

You have to do the opposite to really do it well; boil your alcohol containing liquid at 172.94F and collect the alcohol vapors in a condensor.

Alcohol doesn't freeze unless it has been watered down or had water based mix in it.

Yes. After I got the gunk off, I used it to clean off the residue, and it seemed to work well. Btw, I was making bacon, after being inspired by that truck stop breakfast thread.

No. Freezing the mixture won't remove the water from the alcohol. Besides, you can't freeze vodka in the freezer you have at home.

Vinegar will do the trick as well, and you won't be tempted to drink it out of the fat tray.
