Is Viewsonic VA2226w worth $100?

One of our suppliers is having a 5-day warehouse clearance sale, and one of the SKUs being sold for cheap was a 22" LCD monitor - Viewsonic VA2226w. Converted to US Dollars, it had a sticker price of about $100 due to the clearance sale. They have about a couple of those around, so I'm in no particular hurry to make up my mind to buy one or not, but the sale is only until Tuesday.

I'm still using CRT monitors at home and at work (they just won't die yet). However, they took off almost $70 over what used to be the price of this LCD, and I'm thinking this might not happen again anytime soon (they don't really do it every year), so this might be a good deal.

Primary use shouldn't be a problem, my software dev and R&D tasks will not be affected even by the crappiest TN panels. Secondary use is gaming, but as someone who has played games using a 1280x1024 CRT for the past 2 years, I don't suppose I am actually a very hard-to-please customer - in fact, I'm a bit excited to jump on this deal to finally be able to game at a better 16:10 aspect ratio screen.

Anybody have thoughts about this, is this LCD monitor a good enough deal at $100? I always thought I'd be getting a Samsung when I make the switch to LCDs sometime next year, but this clearance sale just appeared out of nowhere.

Thanks.

For that price you really cant go very wrong. Thats about the price they go second hand a few years old around here. Specs look rather good, so for a new monitor, especially if you still have a CRT, Id say get it. I doubt you will regret it.

Great.

So Viewsonic as a brand has no terrible / negative rep associated with it? No consistent/regular complaints of units dying early, no complaints of terrible quality?

That's my monitor. For $100 that's a steal.
How long have you owned it? How's it holding up? How does it compare to other LCDs you may own, if any?

Thanks.

I've had a 21" viewsonic for a few years now, given it to my wife when I moved up to a 24". No problems with it at all.

Any chance of linking to the supplier, I wouldn't mind using it as a secondary monitor on my setup.

Nice to know, thanks. I'm practically sold, I guess I will be getting this deal.

As for linking, I am not American (hence, I mentioned converting the price to US Dollars in my OP) as most people here seem to be. Unless you are willing to ride a plane to Asia to reach their physical warehouse, I doubt you'd actually get to our supplier.

Holding up fine. I think I've had it for about two years. No problems.

I've only owned a BenQ LCD previously and considering that died after 18 months it holds up better than that :p
